It will be interesting to see how many of people in the "no if AWD" camp will change their minds if the car is actually released as such. I personally predict (and selfishly hope for) an electric motor on the front axle so we can experience 918-style gut wrenching acceleration/traction.
I think porsche could make a rwd gt2 work though. - rear engine grip - cup tires - longer gearing its definitely going to be widowmaker with the systems off though. |

most here have never owned a 700whp+ car or one that is capable of running a 9 sec 1/4 mile on street tires. awd is a must if you want to go WOT below 80mph and not blow your tires off. 700hp, massive torque and rwd requires a great deal of finesse and restraint. I think, for me, that formula is best experienced in a virtual world. |

I need to go to racing school for the next 10 weekends. 700hp rear wheel drive. No computers on the planet can save me. :):)

How much power can the PDK handle? I'm just thinking back to when the originall PDK couldn't be used in the Turbo.

GT2 engine development in a Turbo S disguise.....

My vote would still be for RWD. I mean, the McLaren 675, P1 and LaF get along with just fine with RWD and 900+ hp. But I could easily be fine with AWD.

If it is 700 HP and they get chassis and suspension sorted to keep it on the road/track then I think it will surely get very close if not exceed the performance of the 675LT. This is good as Mac will then have to make sure the upcoming P14 really lifts its game. You'll soon need at least 600HP to be able to call it a "sports" car!! :D

Can't wait to see what McLaren does with the P14. Where are those Porsche 960 rumors? C'mon Porsche. Somebody get on the phone to the cleaning lady! The PDK unit in the 918 seems to be holding up well and it is essentially the same as all other PDKs.;) Somebody correct me if I am wrong. Fixed it for you. Now that is what I want to know. Is the engine being based off the Turbo S, or a beefed up version of the 4.0 from the GT3RS with different heads and a lower rpm limit? |
it's not a GT2 if it has AWD.
600-700hp is no problem RWD. Porsche will put 335 tires on the back. with a good differential most people will be able to drive them just fine. having had the 675LT and P1 on track extensively, they are not impossible to drive but if you try to drive them like they are a nissan GTR you will end up tires up and roof down. |
Completely agree

Had a nice ride with a Swedish racecar driver in a 997 GT2 RS (He's team won Nürburgring 24h last year).
His opinion about the Gt2RS was: "Maybe this is a little bit too much" :) |

Where will it end, 700 hp, come on. Some guys are saying they can't enjoy a 1.1 gt3 on the street with 475 hp then they say, can't wait for the 2RS. Why bother with this much unusable power, I really don't get it. Hang on, okay, flame suit just put on.
