Don't think so - the rev limiter works just as well with manual as pdk. It just won't save your butt if you choose 2nd instead of 4th from high speed. Making redline 100 rpm lower does nothing for that...

Oh forgot - they are only making ~900 of these and they are all sold

Meh, unless you just gotta have an MT.

I think a lot of people are missing out that this car is supposed to be more fun, a little hot rod. There are a lot of AWD / dual clutch/ paddle cars that are TONS faster in a straight line.
My 911R usage will be for epic road trips- SoCal to Zion Utah, stuff like that. I'm imagining the car will have all the grunt of the RS but more of a realistic limit.
This car is about the sum of the parts, the light sensation, the connective shifts and the smiles.

From the post:
Rev ranges - 911 GT3 (991):
Create the VAL before deleting the fault memory. Overspeed events are documented as follows in the VAL:
Rev range 1: 9,000 -1 ... to 9,200 -1
⇒ Maximum permitted engine speed exceeded; engine damage possible.
Rev range 2: 9,200 -1 ... to 9,500 -1
⇒ Maximum permitted engine speed clearly exceeded; engine damage probable.
Rev range 3: over 9,500 -1
⇒ Engine damage has generally occurred.

Makes sense that Porsche might have reduced the over-rev margin for error on PDK-S cars, not originally expecting to hook a manual to these motors.

I really like what they did with the stripes and interior. (I am a sucker for nostalgia).
I must admit, if i were currently porscheless. this would be a fun place to start for a weekend hotrod. Fresh, warranty, limited, stick, exciting. (expensive )
Rich man's GT4...
This is something we all kinda thought about back in 997.2 GT3 days. A GT car with no wing, urban assault weapon! We assumed it would be for less money. Like a RSA.
Now they finally build one and command a premium, which of course they can.
Given that I already have a plain jane white 997.1 GT3 in my driveway, I do not feel the urge to really desire another 2 seater manual 911 GT water pumper my driveway. Especially given the price point of the R. And to be honest, i think for the long term id be just as happy or happier with a mezger manual in my driveway for weekend rips.
For me (since i already have a bunch of P cars), this would be an awesome car to drive for the summer and flip it for over MSRP once out of my system. But i am a hoarder, not a flipper..... I cannot resist the urge to keep cars.
Id say folks who already have GT3, GT4 or GT3PDK are just as happy with what they have and not interested in the 991R at any price.
This car really is for a different market IMO.
Too bad, would have been fun alternative to GT4 had they built more of them.

It's a decontended RS with a MT. I have zero interest. A good thing, I have not been offered one.
