991R redline-8500 RPM

Not to mention the other things about the car that are so underwhelming (except the price), it appears PAG lowered the RPM's to 8500. You can be sure that the days of 9K are long long gone!

Given the very limited overrev range on the GT3 engine, I am guessing that this is to allow enough "head room" on the manual shifter to permit a small overrev without going to stage 5.

Actually it's 8600 but what's a 100 (or a few 100) RPMs between friends? ;)

This.

If peak power is not made at redline, it has short gears to keep it in the power band, and still makes 125hp/liter, I don't see why the lower redline is such a big deal?

Its not. The world of automobiles is just a numbers marketing game. Redlines and 0-60 times are now bragging rights at C&C. Oh and lets not forget shift speeds :icon107:

TRAKCAR 02-29-2016 10:57 AM

Its faster short shifting a bit anyway.

Sorry Peter, respectfully I don't agree. The car bogs a bit when not shifting at redline.

I'd like to see some one test it out if they have a V box. Do a few runs of launch control shifting at 8,250rpm and at 9,000rpm (8,800rpm for our RS brethren). It would be interesting to see the difference of shift points being the only variable.

TRAKCAR 02-29-2016 11:21 AM

Both 4.0 and RS seem to pick up TQ better.
I seem to get 1-2 MPH out of it but i have no data to analyze as I did in the 4.0.

I think a lot of people are missing out that this car is supposed to be more fun, a little hot rod. There are a lot of AWD / dual clutch/ paddle cars that are TONS faster in a straight line.

My 911R usage will be for epic road trips- SoCal to Zion Utah, stuff like that. I'm imagining the car will have all the grunt of the RS but more of a realistic limit.

This car is about the sum of the parts, the light sensation, the connective shifts and the smiles.

I agree, great canyon car for $145-155k but I'd still go for a hot rod GT4.0 :-)
Not for me, wrong coast and wrong price.

I am already building a GT4 4.0...benefits of having your own race team.

How's your Singer discount coming along? ;-)

Peak power is 8,250. Gears aren't so short since it goes 201 mph in 6th at 8,250 (8 mph faster than RS, since it's more aero slippery). First NA 911 to crack 200, IIRC...
