You should check your oil level every 500 miles MINIMUM. I do it nearly every time I hop into the car because it's so easy through the instrument cluster.

It's certainly normal to have burnt that much oil in 1700 miles, if you have never topped it off since new.

I found that for the first 3500 miles my car burned a decent amount of oil but now very little

Yes, that can be normal. It's only 800 ml from totally full to low. Most cars are delivered with the oil indicator at 1 bar from top. So, you may have only burned 600 ml of oil.

On the oil type and weight, check with your dealer service dept. You should keep a quart of oil in the frunk. My dealership provided a spare quart in a handy zippered case that velcroed to the side of the luggage compartment. Be sure you read the instructions on the inside of the engine lid BEFORE you add oil. DO NOT put in more that 1/3 of a quart in response to the caution light coming on. 1 quart will overfill and you will need to return to the dealer service dept to resolve.

The 'correct' level for the oil when full is one bar from the top on the indicator. If it's low, add 200ml for each bar that it is low. Easy to over fill if not paying attention.

The factory fill is Mobil 1 0W40. There are a lot of factory approved oils.

They changed this between the first and send engine. Now each bar is approx 125cml. i.e. 500ml across 4 bars. There should be a label under the engine lid that gives you directions. Definitely best to underfil than overfill.

As soon as you pop the engine lid open you have t g through the while rigmoral of getting the system to read the end oil level again. Real PITA. Many have taken to running the car till il is warm, leave it running, park on flat surface, pop the rear lid, take the oil cap off and quickly fill up say 2-300 ml. Leave the oil level gauge screen on in the car while its running. put the oil cap back on immediately (the engine sound will change when its taken off as it appears there is a bit of vacuum in the system). This way as you fill it up you can see the bars rising (may take a minute or two) on the screen and do not have to go through the long winded process to get the reading to come back before topping off again.

P.S. I suspect the system is conservative. The sump holds 6L f oil. 1-200ml below the minimum level will likely cause less damage than 200ml above the maximum level IMO.

In a pinch, you could probably also top off (not change your oil) with just about any brand of motor oil, and just about any commonly found weight and viscosity.

Normal, I used about 1.5L in 10,000 km.
Gigantic PITA, goes from yellow to red in 10 minutes and with 400cc it gives overfill warning.
I'd ignore it knowing there's plenty of oil but the warnings are distracting on track.

Fill it very small amounts and remeasure after driving few miles. If you add too much and too much can be half a quart you will get a yellow overfill light. Ask me how I know

If that were a GT3 would eat 1500 ml in 3-4 track days lol! Good to know they've improved the consumption on the RS

I think many of us suffered this malady with our first low oil level warning light! Of course only corrected by returning to the dealer. Worse yet I have not added oil for about 3 months/1500 mi. Last night while driving home from work the "exceeded max oil level" warning light came on. Now how is that possible!! I hate this "idiot light" system!!! It has to be a faulty sensor which I now have go to the dealer to resolve... :-((. Just give me a dip stick to check oil!!!!

Same thing happened to me at about 4000 miles since last oil change, on way from LA to Bay Area. Put a little less than a third of a quart in to take care of.
