GT4 allocations are out, RS allocations up next!

'RS Orange' / Color Code 8C6
The big news here, if its reported accurately, is that .1 'RS Orange' or 8C6 is once again allowed for PTS.
As you might remember if any of you follow the PTS color 'sagas', this unique formulation of 'orange' for
the MY2007/2008 .1 997 gt3 RS was used for a number of subsequent years for Limited Edition (Boxsters
& Cayman S's) as well as for PTS on any 997 or 987. The last 8C6 orange PTS was done in Model Year 2010.
After that, PAG advised anyone interested in a solid 'Orange' color to switch to the newly approved 'Pastel
Orange', color code z17. Later they would also resurrect 'Gulf Orange' and add that to the approved PTS list.
8C6 'Orange' was approved for the 918 at the request of some VIP. So maybe PAG was able to reformulate
the color to adjust to the new materials currently in use and decided to offer it once again to ALL customers
via PTS. As of my last PTS approved list dated July of 2015, 8C6 'Orange' is not included. So if this report
is correct that 8C6 is being allowed on a Cayman .1 981 gt4, it would be 'news' indeed! 8C6 'RS Orange' is
my favorite version of that hue, other than the magical & historical significant 'Signal Orange' (which is not
yet currently approved for PTS).
Trakcar: Please double check with your dealer to make certain they have the 'Orange' 8C6 color code correct
on that gt4 order. Thanks.

The PTS window is currently closed for all MY2016 991 & 981 models.
Current model year production (e.g. MY2015) has been ending in recent years in May.
This year, the bulk of MY2016 production will end earlier because PAG is shifting early to
build the face-lifted .2 991, which is expected to be all MY2017. But this year, for example,
all June 2015 991 production was MY2016...not MY2015.
There are questions regarding if PAG will continue to build certain models like the .1 991
gt3 RS & the .1 981 gt4 beyond the Spring into Summer of 2016...and what model year
PAG will call these late builds. PAG could technically continue .1 991 gt3 RS production
into the Summer & Fall of 2016 with the pre-facelift .1 991 look and call it a MY2017.
That is assuming the engines' emissions & noise standards are still valid at those dates
vis a vis their intended sales market.
PTS production is controlled by different criteria of which we know very little (in fact).
PTS is run by series production and it's not a 'Porsche Exclusive' option or service. The
PTS folks (whomever they are) receive estimates of PTS demand from the global sales
organization & tries to prepare for it (sort of). Its usually estimated at 1% or less of
production (they are clearly underestimating the demand, as we well know in this forum).
The PTS window usually starts at the beginning of the ordering process for the new Model
Year. That means pretty soon (Dec or Jan) for US dealer ordering MY2017 regular .2 991s.
Once those slots are assigned (usually first come, first served) to dealer & custom customer
orders, the PTS window closes for that particular model and...no more PTS for that Model
Year. The PTS 'window' varies for each model according to the PTS capacity of each of the
paint facilities at the various PAG assembly factories. The PTS window for the MY2016 .1
991 gt3 RS in Zuffenhausen closed on July 6th 2015. The one for the Cayman .1 981 gt4 in
Osnabrück closed on July 24th, 2015. The one for the .1 981 Spyder in Zuffenhausen closed
on July 31st 2015. The PTS window for MY2016 .1 991 gt3s (a short production run) was in
fact never opened. There are no PTS MY2016 gt3s!
I don't expect PAG to allow any additional PTS for the balance of MY2016 production, which
I expect to end on all models by May of 2016 if history is a guide. The balance of the already
approved PTS for the .1 991 gt3 RS, gt4s and Spyders are yet to be built. So it's not like they
are finding out they have more capabilities to do PTS than they expected...and can add some
more. Last year PAG surprised everyone with the late '15 gt3s allocations of 30 PTS cars done
in only three colors - 'Signal Green', 'Arena Red Metallic' and 'Fashion Grey'. But that was not
a re-opening of a PTS window (which closed for MY2015 in the early Fall of 2014)...it was just
an odd favor that PAG did for PCNA & a few lucky dealers!
Regardless, good luck with your RS allocation in calendar year 2016.

Race Car
Dropped my car off yesterday and I know for a fact they have at least one PTS GT3RS coming for one of their VIP customers. They would not say what PTS but it is coming.

No, sorry. It's first come, first serve. Now, if you would have sprung for a 918 Spyder, there are ways of accommodating
special requests by VIP's...but we can't talk about them in public, right? But just a simple Carrera GT...or two? Please!
Entschuldigung, mein Freund

Thank you Eduardo for the as usual detailed explanation.
I am not really not counting getting a PTS at this point but
have one question for you. Can I request to be given the
chance for a PTS depending, if by any chance, they are
doing a VIP customer's car in a blue or a green tone,
I could get the same color as the VIP customer?

color required to do that customer's PTS request. They
will not have extra paint hanging around to do other cars
...if they would only get in line.
The problem is the limited PTS slots. The latter tend to
disrupt the normal (fast) flow of production in the standard
& metallic colors they have pre-approved for any particular
Porsche model.
Frankly, I am still surprised that PAG allows PTS in the
limited production gt models. And we might see an end
to that sooner than later. My understanding is that the
rumored 911R will not even entertain the idea of offering
PTS. And the MY2016 gt3 was simply not offered the PTS
option at all!
or are they talking about MY2017's???
Dealers can specced all the PTS they want. It's getting
approval & confirmation by PAG to do PTS on those
allocations...that is the tricky part! Keep us posted.

the demand for 200K track focus 911 is pretty limited compared to other models.
2000-2500 should meet the most demand and won't have huge amount of money left on the table.
Porsche's business model is to produce less than demand. RS cars specifically are helping with the brand image, profit on RS cars are only very small part of the total they make.
They should not make RS cars like turbos or regular 911s. If there are too many supply and no specialness about RS cars many buyers will shop other cars like R8, AMG GTs, Huracan LP580-2 ( MSRP 219K CAD, RS MSRP 200,700CAD ),used 458. It will create a huge problem as the demand goes down and supply goes up. This is the last thing Porsche wants to see.

I agree if a bunch of them end up on showroom floors and sit there for awhile, they won't be halo cars any more.
