PAG took care of the 2014GT3 customers well ... wouldn't worry presently. The 2014 GT3s are selling close to MSRP after new engines in the first 785 or so.

If you put 5000+ miles on your GT3 and you're offered a new engine, with Porsche engineers replacing your engine plus some financial compensation when your car is out of commission, I wouldn't quibble. However, it's interesting that these high RPM GT3s may have valvetrain issues in at least a few.

There is at least one person on Rennlist here that had their engine replaced in the last month or two due to a valvetrain issue. They were having some misfire codes and dealer did a smal tear down and concluded something about valvetrain I thought. I'd need to dig around to find the posts.

A dozen cars out of the 2000+ produced doesn't seem like that big a deal to me.
I'd get in a car with a 60 ppm engine failure rate. However, I absolutely wouldn't get on a plane with a 60 ppm failure rate of it's engines.

12 out of 2,000 is 6,000 ppm...

At least, it was.
We'll have to wait to hear precisely what part/mechanism in the valve train is implicated.

FYI, the RS has the following new parts relative to the base GT3:

1. new camshafts
2. new camsprings
3. different oil delivery system
4. new pistons
5. new titanium conrods
6. new unobtainium crankshaft

6000 or 60.

Meh. I'll take my chances either way.

I wonder how you'll feel about that if your car gets close to warranty expiration when it's time to sell. If there continue to be increasing reports of engine replacements, the market for the 991 GT3 out of warranty is going to plummet.

^ i am with you. sure, warranty is great, but constant failure is bothersome.
my $$$$$$$$$$ bike keeps cracking, i am not that heavy. they keep giving me new frames. but it takes time to get the frame and build it up again and again....

i dont have patience. nor the time.
they PAG really should think about it and get it right.

Spoke with a mate at the Ring. Two cars there confirmed. Both started to throw misfire codes and went into limp mode.

Does this affect the newer 'F' engines ? Or just the earlier 'E' ones ?

I wonder how this could pertain to proper break in procedures?? Those that took the car to 9000 rpm from day 1 possibly? Just a thought.

It would seem Porsche would rather swap engines than apply a remedy at the dealer. Possibly due to the fact they have 785 units in stock at the factory over half of which have zero time on them. Makes sense that for any remedy that will cost them more than 10-20 dealer hours at warranty labour rate they would rather pay a few thousand to ship a new crate engine and 6-7 hours to install it.

Does beg the question why they backed the RS engine down to 8600 rpm (although they advertise at 8800 no one has seen it show on a tacho yet!).

My prediction is we won't see another 9000 rpm engine from PAG for quite some time. The only information I have dug up indicates a scored cam lobe in one affected engine. This could be a sign of an oiling problem, or simply a metallurgy issue with a suppliers cams. Nothing conclusive yet. I think it's far too early to jump to conclusions but if PAG feel they need to give me another nice cheque and another new engine then Ill go with that!!
