New PCCB and Track days – Facts Feedback Thread
Folks, I’m glad to be back in the community after a few years away from the Porsche world! I will get my GT3 in a couple of weeks. Very lightly used 2014 (2500 miles), OEM PPCB on the car.
I’m a 8-10 track days/year guy, Advanced group, average guy...
I’m now questioning myself as for:
-Keep the PCCB disks on the car and enjoy these brakes. I kinda paid for it... If they can last 30-40 track days, I’m OK with replacing them once they are cooked. 20K$
-Shelf these disks for resale and convert to a steel setup… 10-12K$
-Shelf these disks and convert to another more durable CC setup... 20K$

I read all the PCCB threads on this forum. Lots of people have their own opinions on PCCB disks vs Track. Lots of opinions and older versions PCCB related facts. What I cant find are facts regarding the newer disks!!
Since the new PCCB are supposed to be different and some guys have started their DE/Track season, it would be great to report real life feedback about these brakes and how they hold up. Make sense??

Dont be shy! As this thread age, we will have real facts to base decisions on. It will help guys like me make their mind and others while they are ordering their new cars.

I took oem pads off right away and put Pagid RSC1 pads on. The PCCBs are just fine on the track. I got a bit of fade on day 1 until I changed my brake fluid. No issues then. Initial bite is better than steels. I think stopping distance feels same.
No problems at all.
This was all on my Turbo S which I have retired from track duty.
If note, my RSC1 pads have 12 mm left all around and are on sale for less than 1/2 price of new. I'll even ship to Canada for you for free if you're interested. I was born in Montreal.

Another option to through into the mix is use the PCCB's and then refurbish them when worn. I have only read about this process on the web, but if it works, it might be very cost effective.

I bought my car used with 1300 miles on it, many of those were autox or track miles. The car was trailered to all events.
I'd have to check the paperwork again but the pre-owned docs had the rotors in the 95% range if i remember correctly.
Since then, I have had about 5k miles, one DE, and 5 autox days and I should need new tires after a few more events. I'll have my rotors checked when I get the tires put on and should have a decent intiial measurement of their wear rate.

High intermediate, running in open passing groups.
I have done 9 track days and one AutoX. I am getting new OEM pads this week, although the pads still have plenty left. Doing a 3 day event at COTA, so getting new tires as well. The last measurement 2 track days ago was 85%. No fade noted. One coach ( auto and coming Mazda driver) who set a reference AIM Solo lap for me was very impressed with the OEM set up.
I'm happy with them. I'll probably do the refurbish compatible RB ceramic rotor replacement when the time comes.

So what do we know about the latest generation? Do we know guys killing PCCB’s?
Looks like refurbishment is still $1000 per corner but that should last more than twice as long as a steel rotor and at that point PCCB becomes cheaper to run..
Replacement rotors are still $15K but getting cheaper.

Yes the carbon content is measured by the expensive tool Porsche makes the dealers buy. I'm replacing the pads a little early because I'm doing a 3 day event at COTA, so I wanted my pads and tires 100%.
