Head2Head: GT3 vs Z28
Here we go folks, hopefully this should put some of the GT3 vs Z28 debate to rest.
Then again, Kudos to Chevy for making a $70k as focused and fast as the Z28 is despite the weight/size.

Randy Pobst : " A manual gearbox requires a tremendous amount of driver involvement, skill, precision and timing. "
" In this 911,just put your foot down and let the computer do the work. "
Enough said!

Interesting to watch, but pretty pointless comparison these two cars would never be cross shopped between the two groups. If I wanted a stick would have kept my 991S which was a jewel, but in love with the PDK-S. Some folks still like a 32 inch TV with a tube, and some prefer a 60 inch LCD. Evolution is a bit@&.

gt3 spanked the camaro. and with lesser tires.
i dont understand how he said the camaro is more visceral. how the hell does any car get more visceral that the gt3?
i think the z06 would actually be an interesting comparison.

But to answer your actual question, lots of cars are more visceral. Go for a ride along in a cup car.

I had a chance to run with one at a private track day a couple of months back and we where the only two on the track for a couple of sessions. No doubt the Z28 is a monster, he did have some trouble keeping up but I could also tell he was having a hard time getting the power down even with the stickier tires. When I was following him around he managed to spin the car pretty good, which we had a pretty good laugh about. Just wish I was running my camera that day so I would have evidence to keep reminding him, and reminding him, and reminding him
Given the price difference in cars, and even weight and size, kudos have to be given to Chevy on this one - even if you don't like the looks etc.

if you are a z/28 owner/buyer, you are saying "just the fact that they need the GT3 for a comparison, etc."
somewhat same way GT3 owners are flattered to be compared to a twice the cost 458 special...

The sad thing is, the current GT3 has bloated to almost the size of the Z/28. Not the weight, but the physical dimensions of the car. Fortunately, Porsche has kept the weight down somewhat. I guess that's what twice the cost gets you - less really is more!

i think they could have calibrated the z28 suspension better for that run... Pobst said it made the track feel rougher than it is... so probably lessening the damping on that awesome manumatic system would improve the laptime somewhat.... a tiny bit while providing better feel... IMO

+600lbs on the "track-focused" Camaro. Who in their right mind builds a 3900lb track "weapon"? That's why new ones go for <$60k.

The side by side Tire Rack Hot Lap Compare at the end really tells it all. Notice how much sooner Randy can get on the throttle with the GT3 than the Camero. Still a really cool comparison of 2 track cars. I hope they do the same video with the new Z06 Vette.
