Rear Camera

I just had a back-up camera installed on my GT3. It uses a camera module made by Nav-TV, but uses a PCM interface made by a former Nav-TV engineer. This interface does not require any physical modifications to the PCM, i.e., plug and play. It works great, and its functions can be adjusted via a PCM screen with the same options a factory camera has, although the guide lines are fixed as opposed to turning as the steering wheel angle is changed.
The PCM interface is from Car Integration Systems (no affiliation).

Thanks John.
This is just what we needed.

John, I think I found the CIS web site but it doesn't provide a lot of details (the web page says the site is still under construction.)

Could you provide a few more details? Did you buy direct from CIS? Who did the installation? If you don't mind saying, how much did it cost? Thanks.

I also found this link to what John is referring to, but unfortunately still lacks details. Perhaps john can give us more info about where did he buy it, who did the install and more about how it works. Mark

I'll send you a PM with cost info. Suffice it to say that it was a good bit more than the $655 Porsche charged for the factory-installed rearview camera option on my 2014 Turbo S.

Mike, that is the correct website, but as you say, it doesn't provide much info. I got the PCM interface, rearview camera, and installation from Custom Car Stereo in Houston (no affiliation although I have been a customer of theirs for over 13 years).

The best way to find out about its function is to look at the section in the PCM manual that came with your car, on page 120 where it describes the camera settings for the non-sports car cameras. The after-market camera functions the same as described in that section except the "docking" grid lines that are super-imposed on the image do not curve to show your path but instead remain straight along the longitudinal axis of the car. I assume this is because the interface doesn't pick up steering wheel angle information as the factory camera does.
I do not know whether the installer had to get the Porsche dealer down the street to change a setting via PIWIS to recognize the camera, but I suspect they did.

I think the solution is either an HD "dashcam" (which I think everyone should be using these days) and/or a semi-permanently installed track data acquisition system with cameras.
The GT3 really needs a front cam, too, since the chin splitter is in peril at even curb or parking spot wheel stop.
It's sad for Porsche that GM has delivered this on the Stingray and forthcoming Z06 while Porsche can't even offer memory seats, or seat ventilation, let alone some decent integration with a track data acq. system (but they do offer an entirely unhandsome stopwatch ... so long as you're okay with it being prominently mounted in the middle of the dash with arcane controls to distract you from controlling the vehcile on the track, and not even a GPS or beacon to get valid times ... : )

Hi, Mark. I sent Mike and you a PM about the cost of the PCM interface, rearview camera, and the installation itself.

I was hoping to be able to energize the cam or camera at all the time, through the advertised function "video in motion" to allow the PCM screen to become my rear view mirror while driving (live CAM). Can come in handy during track event, as at times the track is very congested and over the years I had few close calls. Just thought would be a neat feature to have. Mark
