Yeah, very costly in Aus. With options that I've ordered mine came to just over 360k, I've just ordered the Mo'vit ceramic rotors and calipers as well so that makes it a 390k spend.... a lot of coin for something that you can get at half the dollars in the US.

Very nice! Would love to hear more comparison to your 997.2 RS, particularly after you track this new one...

Australia is one of the most expensive places in the world for these cars. In NZ base is 275K NZD + 2K first registration etc. Same standard options list as AU. Most cars probably had 15K NZD of options specced by owners so around 290-300K NZD all in. Still 30% cheaper than across the ditch...

Yep, for those playing at home, the AU base price alone is US$272,468, £162,504, €203,737 or NZ$323,651 at today's exchange rates.

I should add that my total was the on-road drive-away price, so it did also include the ~$13k in stamp duty for the first registration as well... Stamp duty is a state tax, so may be different in other states, but GST and LCT are federal taxes.
So we pay a total of around $89k in taxes! Ugh, if only I knew the governments would spend it wisely.

  • PCM: $7530
  • Sound Package Plus: $1450
  • PDLS: $1350
  • etc.
The seats are expensive but because it enables the $0 Clubsport option, I looked at it as $7790 for the seats, cage, fire extinguisher and driver's harness, which is much more reasonable.

My total was AU$339,238, including $25,700 in options, of which nearly $22k was GST and $54k was "Luxury Car Tax" (a bulls**t 33% tax on cars over the value of $60,316).
Oh and Dealer Delivery is $6k, which puts the US "Destination Charge" to shame
I think this is around the same price as China. The base price for a GT3 in China is around $1.9mil CNY, which is before rego and etc. The options are equally expensive!

I always wonder why cars are so expensive in Australia. Whats the import tax rate over there? Even for cars under 54k its significantly more expensive than the ones in the US.

Ahh, yes, I forgot about Customs Duty... Another tax... That is set at 5% but it's applied before all the other taxes and stuff are added, although is not charged on the freight component (how generous), so it would be difficult to calculate in reverse; not impossible but way more effort that I'm willing to put into it . Then all the other taxes that I mentioned previously (LCT, GST, rego stamp duty) are added, to cause the maximum amount of pain.

We call it the "Australia tax". It's the difference in the price you pay for buying things in Australia, versus somewhere else. Some of it can be put down to the additional cost of freight, due to distance, but, aside from the myriad taxes, I can't really explain it.

I know that there are other markets that pay similar up to considerably more than we do for cars and I feel their pain as well.

Entered a "Rallysprint" event a few nights ago. Course is 2 mile loop on tarmac utilising Sydney dragway and surrounding area.

Had a blast...I was 9th quickest out of 89 cars.

You can see from the in car video that I left quite a few seconds on the table...the course was tight and easy to get wrong...3 or 4 cars crashed.

Video and some pics.

Great looking car. The Club Sport is one option we can't get in the US.

Wow, don't think I'd have the nerve to run that course! They definitely don't want you to cut the corners.
