LOL....fun stuff guys!

I hope to get some laps on my GT3 in February. My only event with this car I had a needy student and it rained 1/2 the day. 1st session was crowded and after 2 laps...didnt even get tires warm and I didn't turn on lap timer the session got black flagged. Next session before lunch I got out 5 minutes late, got car and tires warmed up, check out how car handled in various corners not really pushing the whole lap and on the 4th or 5th lap it started raining a little so i backed off and went in. after lunch it rained the whole time. What a waste of track insurance

Being car was new to me I have no real data. My 2017 Carrera GTS, stock except for MPSC2 tires would do 2:23-24's when I got it correct and track was clear. I am hoping my stock GT3 which seems to have better corner speed will do a 2:20 eventually. Peter could probably roll off 2:18 in it. I need to do more track events. I've slacked off the last 3 years a lot.

Brutal !!!!

136mph at Bishop's bend, flat-out out of T1, T5, T7, T10, T13, T16 and some serious speed and bouncing on T17.

It proves that the 991.1 GT3 RS is faster around Sebring than all the 991.2 street cars including:

- 991.2 Turbo S and Exclusive Series
- 991.2 Touring (ain't a GT3, wingless)
- 991.2 Carrera GTS
- 991.2 Carrera T (lightest 991 when optioned right)
- 991.2 GT3 PDK or Manual
- 991.2 GT3 RS (WP or Not)
- 991.2 GT2 RS (no idea why these cars are not faster at Sebring, maybe too stiff, like the 991.2 GT3 RS)
- Any other past, present and future 991.2 street car

So much for Nurburgring lap times on cheater tires, when no 991.2 can touch 2:12s at Sebring, that's race car territory even some Porsche factory race cars.

Awesome!!! (video should have a warning: don't try this at home)...

LOL,

The verdict is still out on the .2RS speed at Sebring.

Its going to be a bitch making Lizard go 2:11..
My TBL was 2:1205, this was the only clear lap i got all day so far.
Lost .3 sec in first 2 sectors. The track was faster earlier in the 40’s..

Justrackit (ATL track organizer) used this pic of my GT3 in their latest email blast to sign up for their next event at Road Atlanta. Cool shot of how you're supposed to use a PTS GT3!

Peter,

Great time! You are proving the 991 platform has a lot of potential to improve on Porsche’s excellent starting point. Seeing as the 991.2 is the same platform except for the engine, suspension tweaks and some aero, it will be a challenge to develop it further than the 991.1 for a faster lap. I can’t wait and hope to see you do it!

Autoquest helped me most with the setup, we keep testing .1 and .2RS 👍

Thanks guys, at Sebring at least, it will be not easy to get the .2RS as fast, but we will get there!

I think that a .2 GT3 RS will have a hard time to keep up with a properly setup 991.1 GT3 RS at Sebring, there are heavy factors at play here:

1) The extra downforce on the the .2 comes at a price > extra drag, and the new car gained just a little bit of power. I have driven a regular .2 GT3, and power wise I can't tell a difference with my RS. We all know that mid-range power is better in the .2 engine, but mid-range has no use at Sebring going for a fast lap (look at video above, the 991.1 is over 6,000rpm for 99% of the time, and only a few spots where it falls at 5,500rpm).

2) The spring rates in the .2 are super stiff. Porsche went 220% stiffer for the front, and 33% stiffer for the rear axle. If anything, the last thing a GT3 needs is a stiff suspension for Sebring. If you can't power up out of turns due to a stiff setup on a bumpy racetrack, your exit speeds are lower and the .2RS now needs to motor up to catch the .1.

3) The .2 understeers more than the .1. Before I got my .2, lots of people were praising the handling in the .2 but comparisons to .1 were a little slim in actual performance difference except power (and the gains are negligible). My .2 is on the softest setting for the front bar and stiffer setting for the rear bar, it pushes on the limit. At Sebring, despite of wider tires (295) the .1 has understeer at T3,T4,T5, T7,T10,T13, I expect the .2 will push even more resulting in lower exit speeds (see #2 above).

In the meantime, the fastest Porsche GT street car at Sebring is a 2016 GT3 RS, not a 918 Spyder, not a 991 GT2 RS, and definitely not any other 991 type of car.

You got to be kidding. This is a highly developed car on racing slicks (Ferrari challenge take-offs, IIRC) with one of the fastest non-pro drivers. How can this prove anything if none of the other cars were tested in similar conditions? So far .2s proved to be noticeably faster in the same tires & same driver situations. We'll see how it plays out once Peter gets his .2 but saying that more aero will hurt is unreasonable - both .1 and .2 are still very much within the low-aero and high-HP range, where more aero still produces incomparably more benefit on almost any track, especially when much of the increase is achieved via better efficiency rather than only extensively with bigger surfaces or angles of attack. You need to get to the Radical level of aero-to-HP ratio for drag to overcome the benefits of downforce. Same with statements that .2 models understeer more - you can set up either model to understeer or oversteer as much as you'd like.

On my way home from the 48Hrs of Sebring and the first time there in our 991.1 GT3. I came from a highly developed 996 GT3 that could turn 1:58’s at WGI, to our almost stock .1 GT3. Two years of medical issues have left me with reduced strength and still working in PT on the last shoulder operation, so now the 991 is my new track car as I have to hang on with two hands at all times. Was excited to get to Sebring after missing it the last 2 years and catch up with old friends.

Love running with the Florida GT3 DE crowd. They are fast and courteous on track. Thanks for letting me run with you guys, I had a ton of fun.

Managed a best lap time on Saturday of 2:16.737 with a TBL of 2:13.352 on 22 HC 20” Hoosiers. changed tires and brake pads Saturday afternoo, missing the last session, but ready to tryout a fresh setup Sunday. First session was a track with standing water on it and some fog, so it was a slow session for 10 minutes, but good for a new set of tires and brakes. Second session I hit the back of the field on lap 3 after following a car for a lap at the beginning. That was the end of the open laps. 2:18.093 on the second lap was the best time. However, TBL was 2:09.953 and best Rolling lap was a 2:15.898.

i learned two things from all of this. Firstly, I need to get to Sebring more than once every 3 years. 2 or 3 times a year will be the goal going forward. Secondly, the 991 platform is really a significant advancement over even a 997 GT3 based car (I have had an 11RS and own a 114.0RS). The ability to control the speed of the rotation in the chassis is a significant improvement over previous chassis. I like to drive the car with no nannies and at Sebring left it on soft. I also drive the car in manual with paddles I am old school and like to play with the car in cornering. In the 991 this was still possible with a greater level of control than my old 996. I drove the 996 6 years ago at Sebring with R888 Toyo’s and was doing 2:22’s, but I was a different driver then.

Video in a few days once I get back to NJ. Taking some extra thaw out time in FL while we are here. Video is basically me following Trakcar being his camera car. Cool to see how smooth Peter is and how he was able to get his 2:12. Also amazing-how hard these 4.0 cars pull over my lowly 3.8. I have to find some hp for my next visit.
