Macca:"Expect the arms race to continue. Frankly, I cant see the RS being any faster on the Targa stages than a well set up GT3. They will run issues with compression and rubbing so may need to be raised? Also tyre choices more limited and wider track not always an advantage."
It will definitely be faster, just not a lot faster.
To put it in perspective, I reckon the Cayman GT4 is about 1 second per (Tarmac) km slower than a GT3.
I'll bet the GT3 RS is about 1/4 sec faster per km than the GT3 (both driven well). Doesn't sound much, but over 500km of competition it's daylight.
But it doesn't matter how good your rig is, teamwork in the car (commitment to notes) and hitting every corner hard is still the biggest factor.
The problem with the RS is the "risk over reward" factor. It's up a whole new level over the GT3 and a very special car. I'm just not sure how hard I'd be prepared to ring it's neck - but would love to see it out there.

Plus size, I can imagine big advantages in a 964 with GT3 power for example, less car is more road!
Thanks for posting Skippy, great video, great driving. Awesome to watch you drive further than the eyes can see. Preparation and al.. Thanks for letting us ride along

Not sure if you saw this on another thread?
Going hard on real roads - just what the 991 GT3 was designed for. The car is bone stock except for an Akrapovic Evo Race exhaust, factory front cage and race seats. (Michelin Pilot Cup 2's)

(If anyone is interested in and more stages I'm happy to post. I have a few where we overtake the ACR Viper.)

Here is a very technical stage called Rossarden. We started 30 seconds behind a Dodge Viper ACR and caught him at the end when the road tightens. We won the stage by 10 seconds but probably lost 3 or 4 seconds behind the Dodge, but that happens!
The start was quite tricky because of the loose blue metal they laid before the rally on the first 4 km but then the grip increased.
(Watch for the 269km/hr over the back of the crest)
You will also notice we have to come down to 50km/hr on one of the straights inside a "speed zone" - this knocks the average speed down for the stage. - it feels like you are coming to a complete stop in the car!

No insult meant! Maybe a setting on my player, or more likely my dodgy Vanuatu bandwidth...somehow didn't look natural etc.
Dip pie won the Rotorua Targa on Monday first time out in his New GT3RS. Quinn will certainly have his ready for Targa NZ in October. That's a battle looming! No 991 GT3 or 981 GT4 in the field to challenge. You need to come down in October and show them how it's done!!

We have been tempted a few times to do Targa NZ but have baulked at it because pace notes are not allowed. I could not think of anything more dangerous than racing that fast without pace notss. It means that local knowledge is king and I don't have time to come over and learn the roads.(and I have a bad memory!) - if the organisers allow pace notes then we would come anonymity with a lot of other Aussies who expressed the same concerns.
