GT3 PDK Question
I was wondering if you were able to shut off the "step down" action in the PDK . The step down is the downshift that the automatic transmission does when you floor gas in a higher gear…like 4th gear for instance.
In other words….drive 40 mph in 4th gear…and nail the throttle. Does it stay in 4th gear….or drop 2 gears like most manual transmissions?
Thank you.

Yes. In manual mode in the GT3, PDK-S won't kick down regardless of how hard you step on the gas or what gear you are in; you MUST downshift yourself. This is different than regular PDK which will kick down whether it's in manual mode or not.

You cannot down**** too low to cause a mechanical over-rev but you can downshift too low to need an immediate upshift and hit a limiter, which will screw up stability of the car in a turn. So you can easily spin out because of downshifting more than you needed to but you cannot blow up the engine.

OTOH, as Max points out, PDK will complete the downshift if the result is below the 9K redline although another immediate upshift will probably be required as you hit the limiter. And if you're in a turn the car will likely be destabilized.
The engine is protected but the driver is responsible for choosing the right gear.

So if u don't upshift what does PDK do other than car spins due to wrong gear? How does it protect motor if u don't upshift once it reaches redline? Just trying to understand the failsafes of the PDK-s. mike

It from a mechanical money shift? I'm not talking about pegging the rev limiter when it's time to upshift but a 5-2 moneyshift which on a mt engine mite blow. So rev limiter would prevent that from happening? Mike

Right, a money shift is impossible on a downshift as PDK simply won't allow the downshift in the first place.
But say it does allow the downshift because it results in revs that are below, but close, to redline. The engine is then protected by the rev limiter, just like with a manual car. All the bases are covered.
