Is there a reason to choose a Q1 2014 build over an OCT 2013 build?
I have been given the choice of delaying an October 2013 build until sometime in the first quarter of 2014. Anticipated delivery is December 2013 or April-May 2014.
Are the sport buckets the primary reason to wait? Or is that still a long shot? Any other reasons to wait?

So hard to tell on buckets.
Using history as our guide, they won't show up in the 991 GT3.1. You'll have to buy the RS or .2 to get them.
I thought you posted that you were number 5? Perhaps number 1 dropped off the list?

Regarding your question, basically you are being given an option of waiting four winter months for the car. Being in Austin, I am not sure it would matter one way or another.

Then you would be number 1, not me. I found a dealer outside the area who has offered me either slot.

Should work out what options you want and find out if they will be available with both slots... Some options like front lift, black wheels etc are sometimes not offered with the early builds...
Sports buckets not likely to be made an option in the later slot so wouldn't pass the earlier car for them... teething problems would be the only other reason to take the later slot but waiting a year for a car sux too...

Another perspective is lifecycle improvements. Generally a later build date incorporates more of those, and with a first-gen platform this will definitely be a consideration. Recall the torque specs on CLs and front airlifts with the 997.2... it pays to have later builds.
Then again, there's value to placed on being the first in your region to take delivery. What dilemma

Paint to Sample would be one reason to wait .....and am contemplating delaying for just that reason

No reason to wait in my opinion. Pure speculation that there may be different seat options, may never happen. Get it as early in the depreciation curve as possible. If some option comes along that you can't live without, flip the car for what you paid, get another one.
