Default POLL : MANUAL or PDK. UPDATED-POLL INCLUDED-PLEASE VOTE.

Just had this idea : Let's say Porsche decided to offer a choice...maybe for the RS or for the 991.2 GT3.
Let's vote! How many here would choose MANUAL over PDK or the other way around and perhaps you can elaborate why... Keep in mind when choosing that you might get better lap times with PDK and we can go as far as to say the MANUAL will be an extra cost option.
Please no argument,let's just vote!
Thank you!

Thing is that if tiptronic had been offered as an option and not pdk, there would be a lot of people choosing it over manual. The poll would not distinguish these people which would choose any version of automatic transmission choice regardless if it's pdk or not.

I'd vote by buying a manual given the choice.

7 speed PDK-S derived MANUAL with shorter gear ratios,no overdrive. Rev matching with On/Off switch.

not really sure what the point would be of having a PDK-S based 7 sp manual box with a 'real' clutch ... I think at this point/by now we should just reluctantly accept the fact that 'real' gearboxes are a thing of the past ...

sigh

Hear you on the one hand, but...just spent a few hours pounding around back roads in a 991S with the PDK-derived manual and...it was brilliant fun. And PDK would have spoiled about 30-50% of that fun. For me. YMMV, of course.

I'll never accept the idea that the manual is a thing of the past, even if it becomes one.

If a choice were available I would get the manual. Have driven 991S with 7 speed manual at Barber with PSDS and enjoyed it. That said "PDK- only" isn't enough to make me pull my deposit.

That's a useful data point Pete! I agree that there is nothing like getting your shifts and heel+toe 'right' ... I will sacrifice lap times for that level of engagement ...

having not driven either PDK, PDK-S or PDK derived manual I cant really speak to the relative experiences, but I trust and value your opinion ... so
maybe it would not be so bad after all

Are we talking a real 6-speed or this garbage 7-speed gas-saver crap?

at this point, I do not see Porsche developing a 6sp G50 descendent ... so its the PDK derived box for better or worse

It will be interesting to get your feedback on the PDK-S to see if this improves the fun factor for you realizing that your preference is manual...

Having driven the current PDKs, I am hoping the PDK-S will be much more involving for me especially in everyday driving as I have little doubt of it's benefits on the track....I am voting with my wallet and am on the list for a new GT3. If I'm disappointed, I will sell it as this is just meant to be a fun street car for me that will see the track 3 to 4 times a year....

Because the Carrera 7 speed MANUAL shares 1/3 of parts with the PDK box. More info here :

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-pdk-tech-dept

Porsche can definitely do the same with PDK-S,lower their manufacturing costs and give us the damn MANUAL!
Now back to the POLL...

I'd vote manual but the truth is I still won't be happy with the new GT3.

**** or get off the pot Porsche. If this is the "GT3" then the 9a1 needs to be in put in the cup car immediately. If the 9a1 is not good enough -- bring back the Mezger or label this new car for what it really is -- the 991 GTS-R w/ Aerokit.

Let's try to keep this thread as close as possible to a poll guys,no bashing or praising the car.
Thanks.
So far we have Jumper, myself,Zedcat,Pete and Destaccado for MANUAL and Conekilr for PDK-S.
Not sure about Larry Cable and RaydBonz...

5 votes MANUAL.

I greatly trust and value your opinion as I can't make this opinion due to my issues. However I tell those that want the ultimate raw bones sport car experience that there are a lot of older nice Porsches for sale. I see a lot of these great older Porsches still running strong at DE and club race events.
