Purpose of SportChrono 3RS.2
I ordered it on my RS thinking it was a lap timer? What does it actually do?
It seems porsche uses the RaceLogic data lap timers.

The lapping software with the iPhone app is standard on the 991.2's. But the sport Chrono adds a triggered lap timer receive/transponder setup. The car is wired for the receiver. Think of the old hotlap timers. You need to buy the receiver/transponder, Suncoast has them https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...APTRIGGER.html.
It does add a manual lap timer that you need to trigger the lap with the steering wheel stalk.
To me it's just cheaper to buy an AIM Solo or similar unit, plus its easier to deal with.

It's a complete waste of money.

It is a must have option.
I use it when sitting at traffic lights to measure the time it takes to turn Green. I use the cumulative time to measure other traffic lights on my route, then drive alternative longer paths with no traffic lights and arrive to my destinations in less time, while on a longer drive, and what's bad about driving a GT3RS a little longer?

Wish my car DID NOT have it....but I bought used so not much of a choice. Only good thing is my wife likes to ask what time it is all the time...so I just point to the sport chrono...LOL

I like it. Leather dash so it's not plastic. And I hit the track a few times a year so no need for all the fancy third-party gadgets. I can just hit the steering wheel stalk when I cross finish line to time each lap and the car's app automatically records the video and data logs. Plus it looks cool on the dash. Otherwise you got this big, open, flat space that's unused.

This has been the same with Sport Chrono since my 997.1 Carrera S. You'd have thought Porsche can add a simple 20hz GPS devise and integrate it to Sport Chrono. A lot of people struggle to get the precsission lap timer app working. McClaren give you a car with cameras and GPS integrated for lap time info and analysis. It really bugs me when we pay pretty big bucks for these cars then they skimp on something so cheap and readily available aftermarket. Why do that to such a loyal customer base?

And most would get it regardless.
What data logger did Porsche use for testing and Ring lap times ? I am guessing Racelogic?
