The only abuse is that he drives with his dog in the car and in the snow.

Porsche has ice racing events with 911’s - Nick’s snow driving is not abusive, imo

Nick car issues seem excessive but I do believe the earlier 991.2 production cars such as Nick car have some kind of communication / pcm random errors. I have bought over 15 new Porsches since 2007, including few caymans, boxsters, 991.1 911 4S, 991.1 GT3, GT4, 981 Spyder, 991.2 GT3 RS, 991.2 GT2 RS, Macan GTS, and finally 2017 early production 991.2 Targa 4S and I added at least 12k to 30K on most of these and I had no problems with all of my cars with the exception of this 991.2 Targa 4S and Will discuss shortly, and 991.1 GT3 where engine was replaced twice, once at 1900 miles when they issued stop sale, then at 18k miles where excessive lifters damage was discovered and engine was replaced again and most are aware of the 991.1 GT3 engine issues.
now my main trouble is centered around the fully loaded 2017 911 Targa 4S with Manuel transmission & rear wiper. The summery of the issues as follows:
1- can never save my seat, mirrors, steering settings without losing that shortly after and I brought car to Porsche service for at least 6 times and yet not resolved. So issue is not fixed.
2- The back up camera does not always engage when you go into reverse. Works most of the time, but at least once a week, I got to turn off car and turn it back on before it starts working again. So issue is not fixed.
3- my music in Jukebox got wiped off serveral times and I had to reload them. So issue is not fixed.
4- my frunk botton stopped working on couple of occasions but Porsche service fixed that successfully. Issue fixed
5- my LED headlight flickers on & off during track days & autocross while doing hard turns. I have several videos documenting this including Porsche service technician witnessing this in person and everyone else watching during these events. Issue is not fixed yet despite 4 or 5 trips to service and leaving car with them at times for weeks. They have replaced the headlights brain or light control module and the light assembly but it has not fixed issue. It is a safety issue as the car lights will flicker while driving aggressively at night on backroads. However on last autocross in 2018 event, Porsche service friend and on a hunch placed a small masking tape on windshield to cover light sensor attached at bottom of rear view mirror and it appears it may have fixed issue, as he thinks sensor flexes during hard cornering triggering pcm to turn lights on and off. As new track and autocross seasons begin this year, we will explore this fix further and confirm if it works, then Porsche would replace windshield and mirror assembly and hopefully we will have finally a fix....
6- I had few random errors messages pop every so often but they disappear on their own shortly after. This is very rare and random occurrence and nothing but an annoyance.
7- seat controls stopped working once and problem was fixed
8- seat memory buttons stopped working once and problem was fixed,
9- occasionally and since car was new and on cold mornings especially in winters and car parked outside, I have a hard time engaging 2nd gear properly and have to attempt it again but once it engages once, then I can shift into 2nd ever so smoothly regardless of rpm, so I am ever so careful on my very first 2nd gear shift to avoid shifter not engaging correctly or popping out. Took it twice to service but they can’t replicate the issue. I have been driving manual cars all of my life and I currently have 4 recent Porsche’s with manual transmission including 991.2 GT3 and never had this issue except in this car. However issue is not common and only during cold mornings and if I am careful during my 1st engagement, I never see this issue again.

so these the the issues I have or had with my 2017 911 Targa 4S, which I specified personally on configurator and took delivery in summer 2016 and have accumulated over 15k miles. Aside from these nagging problems which does not prevent you from driving the car, I love the car, and it has been reliable in the sense it never stranded me and it had been driven very hard on dry & wet streets and tracks and on snow, I take great pleasure driving it extensively on the snow. Amazing machine but annoying issues that can’t be fixed or go away.
my car and Nick are similar in terms of production dates, options, and the fact it is a manual and oh yesssss, it is the only sport Porsche I ever owned with a rear wiper, with exception of Macan of course. So may be it is the curse of rear wipers, or the manual transmission!!! But I personally think most issues are related to PCM...

anyone else with early production 991.2 with same issues???? Mark

Anyone else think it might be the Escort laser jammer/radar unit? It's something he's had in both 911s, but seemed to be fine in the M4.

Porsche lemons seem to be his schtick now, and bad PR is something Porsche responds to more than anything else.

That was my immediate thought.

I don't consider him driving/enjoying his Porsche to be "abuse".

it’s a possibility, but he would have to have an incredibly incompetent installer. I have seen many such terrible installers for these remote radar systems, so there is a decent chance of running into one. However, I took a look at Nick’s installation and I don’t see any surface signs of bad install.

I like Nick, chatted with him a few times. Like the guy alot.

But his Youtube videos and IG posts don't tell even 10% of the things he puts his 911 through.

I agree 100%, it will have to be a very bad installer. However if Porsche could not find the problem, they make you disconnect your radar/ laser system while investigating an electric issue. That was the case for me if I wanted to make a claim under warranty, as they initially tried to blame all the trouble I am having on the radar installation, so we took it all out and brought them back a bone stock car and guess what ??? they still could not fix the issues. I currently own 8 Porsche and all 8 have identical radar/laser systems and I am not having any trouble with any of my Porsches except with the 2017 911 991.2 Targa 4S with manual transmission and rear wiper which is similar to Nick’s. Something strange about this car from day 1. Mark

People are forgetting all the aftermarket electronics he stuffed in his first car. More likely, it was a bad install and is blaming the factory for the ensuing problems. IIRC, Porsche offered him the standard deal under Lemon Law and that wasn’t satisfactory so he went straight to YouTube to complain more, probably for leverage.

Keep in mind, JD Power just ranked the 911 the #1 most dependable, most reliable vehicle for 2019 in the entire marketplace, including all cars, all trucks, and all SUV's. More generally, Porsche was ranked the #2 brand for dependability among all brands tested. That's quite an achievement, especially when you consider how much more aggressively Porsches are handled and driven compared to your typical Lexus or Corolla that never revs above 3k rpm.

The PCM does not control some of the faults he has.
