Starting my GT3 in sub zero degrees
This might be a silly question but anyways...
I will be taking delivery of my 991.2 GT3 on monday. The weather forecast is around -10C (14F). I have never owned a car with such an high performance engine, can I safely start the engine and drive it to my garage? Or should I call up some friends and get them to push me? It's about 100 meters from where the trailer will drop it off. |
I would drive it into your garage as soon as it arrives. Won't hurt the engine, but those tires will not be happy if you leave it out for very long.
|
And also remember, those tires DO NOT grip well in the cold!
|
engine is ok
as others said , be careful with traction related to tires |
If you are going to store the car for any length of time in your garage before you get to drive it a long enough distance to thoroughly warm it up, I would not start it for 2 to 5 minutes just to move it from the trailer into the garage.
If it were mine, I would roll it out of the trailer and haul it into the garage with the towing eyelet in place via a small tractor or have your friends over to push the car in. Regards, Pranqster |

I'm more worried about starting up the engine in -10C. |
Hello- this is still a car like any other car. You can start it in any temp outside
|
Mobil 1 0W40 flows very-very well at those temps. Fire away.

Thank you for injecting some common sense to this thread. |

Ridiculous. I drive my GT3 all winter long, zero issues, also tires are fine, just be careful. |
Drive it, and the oil will take care of the rest |
Cold weather = peak HP

I always found my ex- 997.2 Turbo ran better in colder weather but I find the NA engines to be consistent no matter what the Temp |

However, in my book, an N/A engine that produces 125HP per liter with _solid_ lifters is not an engine like all others. That's why I was asking. Anyway, you all seem to agree that it should not be of any concern, which makes me happy. I really want to start my car and drive it, even if it's only for 100 meters and in deep snow! :) |
OP no matter what you decide, be sure to get video. :D |
