Cool 997 GT3RS or 991.2 GT3 6MT?

Hi all,

This isn't another what should I buy thread. This thread is more about you and what you would want if you were faced with this choice today. If you already happen to own one or both of these, let's pretend you own neither and are considering one as a third or fourth car, something nice to have around. Which would you choose and why? For the sake of discussion, let's fast forward 5-10 years, how do you think these cars will stand the test of time as far as demand and relevance?

I have both

27k miles on 997.2RS, lots of track
400 on a new touring...I’ve had two days

I drove the RS from Orlando to South Florida to pick up the touring and drove it back

The 997 is awesome, the trans is pretty much a 996 cup trans. And it drives like one. The motor is very raw, almost air cooled Porsche raw. The car is very very simple. I do most of the work on it myself. I’ve always said I would daily drive it...but seem to go somewhere else and it sits...my favorite toy as I will never sell it. I thought the buckets in the 997 were comfortable

then i I got into the 991 touring
- it’s huge compared to a 997
- the transmission is magic, I cannot believe how well it shifts
- car is soft, very nice to drive
- clutch is very light, easy to daily
- seats are fantastic, better than 997 gt2 type...and much more comfortable than 991 4 way or 18 way, as they both kill my back after an hour

with that hat all being said, if I could only have one and it was for street driving...991. I plan on keeping this car forever as my daily....it is the most perfect street car Porsche has made....and honestly even with the 15k ADM I paid...a bargain

if I could nay have one and it was for The occasional DE...997.2RS. It is such a rewarding car to drive proper

the 991 just feels too big and computerized to be engaging to me st a DE, no doubt it’s faster. Faster is not always more fun....but I can tell union a race track lighter is always more fun...and lighter the 991 is not

the 991 feels like a grand touring car to me....still wish Porsche put a back seat in it....it would be perfect

I'd pick either a .1 or .2 997 RS over the 991 given the parameters, a 3 or 4 deep car, looking 5-10 years later.

Otherwise, if choosing a current weekend driver, I'd pick the .2 RS over the 991 6MT, however would pick the 991 over the .1 RS. I feel the .2 997s, RS and .2 GT3s, are a huge step above the .1s.

I'd pick the RS (.2) because of the raw character of the car, heavy clutch, emotional Mezger engine, drivetrain noise, LWFW, smaller, lighter package, etc... It would be a somewhat difficult choice as I love the 991s.

I currently own a .2 991 6MT and previously a .1 991 and 997s

3rd 4th car? How good is your 911 driving? How is your heel and toe? Not judging at all but the 991 is quite a bit easier to enjoy out of the box, 997 in my opinion takes a bit more time to learn and get to grips with. How wealthy is your car budget? 997 rs has some intrinsic bills if you don't want to have a beautiful ornament instead of an car, 991 has warraty.
Long term I think 997 rs will do a bit better but the 991 won't do bad either, 2028 I doubt it these cars will be worth 1/2 what they are now, that will be the height of full electric propaganda and demonization of petrol. So if you are going to buy, buy whatever you like more.

As a final note, I would pick a 991, enjoy it, sell it for similar money and try a 997 rs. By the time you do this, 992 gt3 will be out, you dodged the 991 depreciation hit, the 997 rs won't really get any more hits, as they are a very unique proposition (I think of them as modern 964rs), specially when hybrids hit up and heavy and sedate becomes even a bigger norm.
sell the 997 rs get whatever 992 rs(r) that will come, given you didn't kill yourself during the recession because you were over exposed in debt and some stupid investments.

I have 997 RS and will never sell. Like rawness and size and immediacy of input. Have incoming .2 GT3 manual and have driven them. Likely better for daily driver but not why I buy the cars. Cant go wrong with either.

+1.
Driven my buddy's 991.2GT3 manual on track and it is easily 3 seconds per lap (2min 25 seconds per lap) faster than my old RS, but I will rather keep my RS all day long.

^^^same result, but I'm SURE smaller sample size to Mooty's.

Hopefully, the 1.2 3rs changes that. I take delivery in a few weeks.

I have both. 24k and probably 80 track days on the 997.2 RS. Have about 950 miles on the 991.2 manual GT3.
Both excellent. 991 clearly a more modern car. Lots of power. Easy to drive. Light clutch and shifter.
997.2 more of an occasion. Less usable, heavy clutch, shifter brutal until warm, SMFW rattles like something is busted. More drama, more scary. Certainly worth more over the next decades.
Hope to only add more, not planning on selling anything. Future cars will probably be more like the 997.2. High charisma stuff. Don't really care about the nonsense power. Can't use it on the street anyway. I feel no kinship to dudes who buy 600+ horsepower cars to take to cars and coffee and flip when the next cool thing comes.
