Clearly the auction houses thought 36k warrantied a significant discount or some other issues were present.

When there are literally 100+ .1 RS's for sale a car with 36k miles on it is only going to sell if it's at a massive discount. Wouldn't surprise me if it goes for less than $150k.

A better indicator may be what RS owners are getting on trade in. Would be curious to see how many cars actually go to auction, and even better what are actual retail sales numbers. Auctions are a fail safe for dealers that can't move a car, or an opportunity for them to pick up a car to retail.

Im just going to say prices have really really fallen. I just traded in my 16 with 3,400 miles and I think people would be astonished at what I got. I also had the car for sale in the Marketplace. In FL the trade in tax credit made it favorable to just dump it to the dealer. Recent auction prices are trending way down and there aren't many transactions at the auctions as cars aren't meeting the minimums. Compare the recent auction numbers with just 6 months ago. Think 165k as there are so many options for a buyer currently.

Alternatively, the guy drove it for 30k more miles than the guy above him and it only cost him 50 cents per mile!

It’s all about the buzz generated by buyers, internet chatter, and sellers. Once the buzz has faded the values equilibrate toward established norms.

After reading a bunch of car forums for a decade, watching prices, and buy/selling cars, it seems the more general rule is supply and demand based on price points. The competition for a GT3RS is everything that sells for around the same price. Those who can afford to buy one new with ADM and have done so. Those left now are the aspirational buyers moving up market. Literally, you have buyers who can spend X for car and now X is filled with dozens of options. We are lucky that there are so many cool cars to buy and so many of us can afford to do so.

Auctions can be a way to flip a dog as you know... but not always the case. could just be a small independent that needs a fast flip.
How close to your buy rate at the moment are the low mile condition 4.5+ cars? Ballpark?

Having attend dealer auctions and purchased cars from them, most have needs and stories.

I just picked one up today, single owner, no stories, $169k (205k MSRP) with 5k miles on the clock. I'm hoping that's close-ish to the floor on one of these for a while.
