Not to muddy the water but I thought strongly about a .2 GT3 instead of my RS or incoming .2 RS. I was kinda set on it actually UNTIL I drove it. Motor seemed exact same as .1 RS with a slightly diff sound and it def seemed less special-totally unexpected. Handling seemed less sharp although the Gt3 had Dunflops and my RS has Cup 2's. Its a great car but no replacement for RS.

But I’m not getting these cars for a pretty understated look, I prefer the menacing track animal look of the TS.

The touring and Manual GT3 is great for non track enthusiasts although I probably wouldn’t get a Porsche for that kind of use.
Its like neutering it.

Different horses for different courses and Porsche caters to all.

I drove the manual GT3 a couple thousand miles on great CA roads and still would prefer an RS for that.
I was a bit surprised about that.
In case of the manuals, the mechanical diff really take away from the overall performance, specifically rear grip.
The more comfortable more padded setup really doesn’t add to comfort in the new GT3 and a GTS is probably quicker and more comfortable to drive.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about the the GT3T

i love to drive my turbo when I have things on my mind and don’t want to drive - it’s so mindlessly fast and drives like it’s on rails at 100 mph

the inly problem is em is whenever I get into my turbo these days (since I have owned the RS) I feel like I am driving a Dodge Ram - the turbo feels like a comfortable boat - hard to explain but I am going to get rid of the turbo now - I can’t stand it any more but my wife prefers it so we will see

Don't be so quick to judge. Sound, linear and fast tach response are why NA is in demand, we all understand that part. But compared to my 997.2 RS, my 991.1 RS somehow feels a bit meek at around 5000 rpm. That's all I was saying. If you sweep quickly passing 5000 you won't notice this; or if you play the gear to keep RPM close to peak of torque (~ 7000?) you will have enough back kicking feel plus that epic sound. Like you, I have a 991.2 RS coming (end of January delivery), but I am keeping my .1RS for a while. If I don't like the car I would have sold.

I don't get all the bashing for the OP voicing that he prefers the 991.1 3RS to the .2 GT3

He's not the first person to come away not impressed by the .2 (I think the legendary mooty mentioned as well it might not be his drink of choice for the 991 GTs) and as a current .2 owner I welcome these opinions since I never had the chance to drive the 991.1 GT3 or GT3RS. I think the Obsessed Garage guy as well mentioned in some of his recent Smokie video reviews that the .2 engine feels a bit more refined with less mechanical/"coming apart" noises which is interesting

I don't think we would dispute that the new engine has more low-end grunt/mid range (fingers crossed no finger follower issue either) but maybe it came at an expense of less chatter/noises & more refinement from the powertrain

Maybe there is something charming about the 991.1 GTs that people are overlooking as we got enamored by the new motorsport derived 4.0 in the 991.2s? cool to discuss either way

I felt like the same when driving a .2 GT3 (own a .1 GT3). The engine feels a bit stronger below 5k rpm but not revolutionary. The power delivery is more smooth / linear. Downside of this - it doesn't feel as spectacular as the .1.
The sound thing is all about the single mass flywheel. The rattling & grinding sound in the tranny comes from the smfw, as well as the nice vibrations in the car in idle.

The ride of the .2 is superior. The car felt much more planted. I wondered because its only a setup thing - but for me it was the most noticable difference (but on CUP2 N1 vs. PS4S to be fair). From a emotional point of view, I prefer the .1 - maybe a bit because its my baby

I have a soft spot for the 991.1 GT3 engine/drivetrain over the others. It has the best high pitch wail of all of them. Plus it's the only 3.8 so you need to rinse it to get the power.

I have both 15 .1 GT3 and .2 MT GT3.. Both are with RSS X pipe and both are great but a bit different.. I like the exhaust sound on the .1 GT3 better, but the power is stronger on the .2 GT3.
Agree with comments that .2 GT3 is more refined than .1 and the manual GT3 is a different driving experience (love it).. So overall ........... I like them both in a different way.
Still if it is .1 RS vs .2 GT3 I would take a .2 manual GT3 any day.

As far as I know, the .1 GT3 (PDK only) has a dual-mass flywheel. I think single mass flywheels are offered only with manual gearboxes (but not on .2 GT3).

No, .1 GT3 and RS have a single mass flywheel. It was abandoned in the .2 because of vibration problems with the new (stiffer) crankshaft they say.

I think you are confused. The 911R has the option of a single-mass flywheel with its manual gearbox (as did all the Manual RS's before). This option was not offered for the 991.2 GT3 because of the stiffer crank and resulting damage to main bearings without a dual-mass flywheel (according to AP). But I don't think any Porsche with PDK has ever had a single-mass flywheel...

Of course if I'm the one who is confused, I'll be happy to admit it if you can provide some evidence

think this is right. and it is plain to feel/hear in the .1. that's one of the first things I noticed when I fired one up - it idles so nervously that it just gives you the sense it wants to get moving. the .2 doesn't seem that way - it definitely seems to have less chatter

This clearly states that it’s dual mass on the 991.1 GT3, so...
