Never driven a 991.1 RS but after 1500 miles on .2 GT3 RS 2019 this is the best way i can describe my experience:
Every ride from point A to B simply transforms into an experience of driving ecstasy and dopamine highs... riddled with uncontrolled smiles and laughter and expressions like: F-ya.. wow, damn.. sick , holly sh-t .... while being bombarded with sensory inputs of all kinds; engine sound direct from heaven , induction hiss and puffs , vibrations , g-forces... name it!
Add on top a scenic canyon road.. and you will be pretty close to Heaven itself.
Worth every penny for a driving enthusiast. Every Single Penny !
(With the most Most useless option being the stereo equipment.... not because it sound bad but because , imo, its a crime to turn it on )

It doesn't appear this was ever answered. Does anyone know what causes the chunter / clatter, if not a SMFW? I personally like the chunter and wish my .2 had more of it. Someone also mentioned this has nothing to do with PDK vs Manual. Three other guys I go driving with all have PDK's; a 15' 991.1, which has the chunter and both the '18 GT3 & '19 GT2RS do not chunter. If this 4.0 engine is truly the same power plant used in the Cup Car, how come the Cup Car does have a SMFW and AP says this engine cannot?

First, the 4.0 isnt exactly the cup engine. Its the basis and close. But not the same. As allways with the street vs. race engines. Cup has a sequential gearbox and ultra light flywheel.
I have further information on the SMFW topic regarding our street cars. For the manual gearboxes, its a traditional flywheel (dual mass in the .2; dual mass or single mass if speced in the R). The PDK cars dont have a traditional flywheel. The part doing the "flywheel job" is part of the PDK box. In the .1 its a lightweight part, comparable to a SMFW. For the .2 tranny they used a heavier one to bring down vibrations. Thats why you dont have the goergous tranny noises anymore. In the parts catalogue they use a standard terminology (DMFW) for all PDK cars.
Btw. if your .1 PDK dies you end up with a replacement part without the noises Also, fitting a SMFW to a .2 works but increases the stress on the bearings.

Like Track Car I have driven them all and until last month had a few open wheel cars.
The RS either a .1 or .2 has a better front end bite then the GT3.
My feeling is some of you have limited track experience and don't push hard into the corners where the RS has a noticeable advantage.
KOTB sounds like you hit a nerve on the GT3 owners. My feeling is you are right.
But to be fair I don't like driving the RS on the street.
