GT3 vs. GT4 - Can only have 1

Get the GT3, you won't regret it!
I just traded in my GT4 (drove it for 5k miles) for a 991.2 GT3 and I'm shocked at how much better it is- I think it's worth 2x the money. The engine of course is incredible, but the entire package is much more capable even on public roads. It's rare to get to 9k rpm, but it's so much more planted and composed on all the backroads I used to drive my GT4 on. Plus the suspension feels more compliant to me. I think it's a better daily driver as well.
I also got the carbon ceramic brakes and pdk. I've owned 5 porsches- all manuals and steel brakes (including a 997.1 GT3) and can't believe how amazing the pccbs are on the street. Incredible stopping power and easy to modulate- and no squeaking!
While I really liked the GT4 and love the idea of a mid engined GT porsche, they will always keep the performance well below that of a 911 GT.

Only two things I like over the Gt3 is feel of balance of mid-engine on track
I'm not aware of another track focused car near gt4 price tag that is more capable, dependable, similar depreciation, running cost, more utility, etc. in the fun/$, you can't touch a gt4 imo.

You balance GT4 trough corners, GT3 you have to wrestle around with beasty engine

i know accounting for driving style etc... there’d be some variance but I cannot think of a more balanced, almost telepathic machine around corners (river road) along my drive. Now this is driving at .... reasonable speeds . I found the GT3 to feel more planted only at speeds that will lead you to donate your license. I much prefer the mid engine balance over the rear wheel steering...
But that GT3 engine though... makes you forgive the trickery they use to disguise its size!
Just moi...

Depending on your appetite to tweak, it’s relativley easy (though not inexpensive) to get a little more useable power from the GT4. After two GT3’s I moved from Colorado to Western NC where I really wanted a more nimble car with manual transmission. Sold my 2015 3 and bought a 2016 4. Loved everything about the GT4 except the power difference as has been commented on by everybody. So rather than waiting for the manual GT3, went the X51/tune route with Guard Transmission 3-5 close ratio gear set, lightweight clutch and flywheel and Guard LSD. Dynos at 410 hp at the rear wheel and stupid easy to drive quickly on the street or the track and honestly as I’ve gotten older, the forgivability of a mid-engine chassis has appeal. It still isn’t the same experience as the GT3, but is much more fun for this driver.

I have never felt more connected with a car upon first seating than in my GT4
But that was the point, Porsche didn't because they knew it would upstage the nostalgic 911

So I've owned a GT4 for over 3 years and track and autocross it regularly. I got to track a friends 991.1 GT3 last weekend and was impressed by the performance difference. The GT3 wasn't my car so I didn't hammer it but did like the extra low and high end torque, and bouncing off a 9000rpm limit. My GT4 is almost TOO easy to drive hard in comparison. I also have a C7 Z06 so I'm use to tracking a car that provides some excitement, and the GT3 seems to deliver it more than my GT4. I'm a manual transmission guy, but I can see why everyone loves the PDK.

I was shocked at how well it rode and how well it handled when I first drove it and then tracked it.

So I’m a long time lurker here. Been reading about the GT4 here before it was announced & just a cleaning lady rumor. Repeat with the whole 4.0L .2 GT3. I’m hoping to get some help with my dilemma:
Long story short, I’m looking to buy one Porsche and keep it for the next 10-20 years.
GT3 or GT4?
Both are well within my means, but I’m at a crossroads in my head. If I buy the GT4 I’ll always regret not getting the bigger brother 4.0L race engine. But if I buy the GT3 I might regret spending 2 times the amount than the GT4 and probably won’t track the GT3 as hard for fear of “breaking” it.
I’ve always dreamed of the day I could walk up and buy a P-Car without breaking a sweat, but now that it’s here, I’m nothing but stressed about which one to choose!!! Help friendly fellow Rennlisters!

Surprised this is even a debate after the 991.2 GT3 was released with a manual. I've own both cars and the GT3 hands down beats the GT4 in every category except 5 lugs and being a little more nimble.
