GT3 vs. GT4 - Can only have 1

the GT4 doesn’t have the metzger but is just as fast around a track as a 997.1 GT3. The GT3 has far more noise and vibrations on the street, but the GT4 far more refined. Add to that the old interior and out of warranty issues... I wouldn’t trade my GT4 for a 997.1 GT3.

I had a GT4 for almost 8,000 miles including some track days. Great car. I now have a 991.2 GT3 and as others have said, the engine is from a different planet compared to the 3.8 385hp mill in the GT4. It feels like WAY more than 115hp.

I have both cars... (.2 touring). And while I love the engine in the GT3, I can’t shake the almost intuitive handling of the GT4. There’s so much to explore in this car’s potential and rewards at medium/road speeds. It’s almost like the car is steered by my head/ eye movements sometimes. Another point is the sound!! I don’t know if it’s the mid engine configuration, but so far I’m giving the nod to the GT4 in terms of engine /induction noises, and I’m assuming since I have 14k km’s on it, the exhaust is way more raunchy. If I were to choose, I like the clutch better in the GT4 (feels more old school/ heavy). And lastly, the simple act of getting into and out of the GT4 is more of an “event” with those simple straps (maybe it’s just me).
The GT3 has a motor from the car gods; there is no other way of putting it. It not only revs... she pulls; gosh she pulls till the end!
When I get into the GT3 I tend to forget it’s little nuances as the engine is so distracting. When I get into the GT4 I’m reminded of how good this package truly is. That’s why they both have a place in my garage.
If I were to choose one, it literally will come down to which car I drove last before the decision. (Again, this is just my opinion... I realize it didn’t answer the question).

Recently purchased a GT4 thinking I could save some money and that it would scratch the itch.
I'm stilling looking at a GT3 or GT3RS. Should have saved some money just went for it from the beginning.
But I come away thinking that the GT4 is perfect and it's more than enough for me every time I drive it.

.2 GT3 just has a sick engine. You are paying an extra $50,000-$60,000 just for the engine and if you have the money it is worth it. Even at slow speeds the engine makes the GT3 feel Special.

Ain’t that the truth... if you can swing it, the manual GT3

It’s not even in the same conversation. You can’t compare a 2.7 RS to a GT4 or 997.1 GT3. When you’re talking modern Porsches, convience is a factor especially if we’re talking same capabilities.

Yes, many in the GT3+ forum vote for the GT3 over the GT4. No surprise. But OP’s underlying worry was the additional cost for track-daying a GT3.
Fair concern - especially given threads like this https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...l#post15406823
I have even similar concerns with a lowly Carrera T. (I.E. should I pick up a spec Boxter... on the cheap - with cheap consumables for track days...) but, for me $30-$50k for a dedicated track car would more than cover 2-3 DE events per year in my T.

Sorry, thought the question was about a sense of occasion/immersion when driving your Porsche on the weekend. With a daily driver - for sure - get a new Porsche.

991.2 GT3 with a manual gearbox - best of both worlds

Ignoring the "whats better or money difference" What kind of space do you want in the car. I did 500 miles this weekend in my .2 gt3, i am a tall guy 6'4 and my brother had his cayman. All these cars are amazing, cars. If you want a roomier car, more storage for trips, and have concerns about long driving weekends, get the GT3, if you want a killer car, not worried about the space, and want to save the money, gt4. I would have had a gt4, but cant deal with the space. its tight for tall guys You live in 3rd and 4th on long sweeping roads, 2nd and 3rd on tight. Like deals gap. So if you really look at the driving value. both give you so much car and will only show major difference on the track.
I think the gt4 is a steel for what you get, how it handles and how it sounds. you cant go wrong with either.

So I've owned a GT4 for over 3 years and track and autocross it regularly. I got to track a friends 991.1 GT3 last weekend and was impressed by the performance difference. The GT3 wasn't my car so I didn't hammer it but did like the extra low and high end torque, and bouncing off a 9000rpm limit. My GT4 is almost TOO easy to drive hard in comparison. I also have a C7 Z06 so I'm use to tracking a car that provides some excitement, and the GT3 seems to deliver it more than my GT4. I'm a manual transmission guy, but I can see why everyone loves the PDK.
