Paddles or shift lever when driving in manual mode GT3RS PDK
I really enjoy having the option to shift with paddles and center shifter when in manual mode. After 13k miles in the 991 RS I really prefer the shifter over the paddles. I feel more engaged with the car, the paddles are nice to have as an option in fast corners. Noticed that in the 992 interior pics the center shifter was replaced with a Panamera style lever that cant be used for shifting leaving only the paddles for manual shifting. Really hope that the gt models will offer something similar to the 991 models.

Paddles always. One of the PDK benefits over manual is that you don't have to take your hands off the wheel. Will be interesting to see if the 992 GT PDK cars offer a shift lever option, but I doubt it.

You'll get used to it after being on the Porsche forums for a while : the pdk guys will make fun of the manual guys for using the Sport button, which rev matches on downshifts(" you might as well should have gotten pdk "),and the manual guys will make fun of pdk guys for using the gear lever to shift gears.

No question that if on the track and going both up and down the gears, the paddles feel right but on the street where speed of shift isn't critical, the shift lever allows a longer more engaging experience especially as the shift lever has a much much stiffer return spring.
I find myself often downshifting with the paddle but upshifting with the shift lever. How nice to have options.

Street driving with the lever is more engaging than paddles. The paddles are great for track use but a little video game-ish for street use. Driving GT3RS in auto is just wrong on so many levels.

On the street I use the lever 100% of the time - simulated manual - maybe, but it's definitely engaging.
On the track, paddles 100%.
Even though it's supposed to be the fastest, I've never driven in auto mode on the track.

From Excellence article on PDK: "While it is popularly believed that PDK's advantage on the track is due to quicker shifts and less power interruption, that's only a small factor. The real reasons are reduced mental load for the driver, who can fully concentrate on optimum braking and driving the correct line, and not diverting mind space toward shifting. PDK also is always in the optimum gear, upshifts at the optimum rpm, and delivers smoother and less disruptive downshifts."

Is the PDK gear shifter in manual the most underutilized great part of our cars as most seem to use the Paddles?

It's funny I was watching a video a while back where Chris Harris was flogging a 991 RS and he actually talked about how he preferred the shift lever. I don't know if this is actually a "thing" but for me, the lever reminds me of my motorcycle racing days and I actually really prefer it. In the GT cars, they flipped it from the standard 991s (push forward to downshift, pull towards you to upshift in the GT cars), which is very much like the gearbox in a bike. It's a super positive feel and is "close" to what a sequential gearbox is like in an old rally car, etc.
The paddles are probably faster, especially on a track where you're not making giant rotations of the wheel, but there is something fun about the lever to me.
After all that being said, I still use the paddles quite often.
