Thankfully, no.

So so it’s simply a convenience thing... get gas once per track day, or twice per day. If you leave the track to get gas at normal prices here, that’s a 30+ minute round trip. Or pay double the normal prices at the track pumps.
I dont know how this is possible. I can only get two 30 minute sessions on a tank of gas. Now, I do have the smaller tank. But, I burn through 34 gallons in four 30 minute sessions. Then, I usually run at least one more 30 minute session at happy hour. And I am not driving to and fro the track. How many sessions are you running?

I'd prefer to have it, but it aint a big deal to re-fuel every two sessions. Heck, whats the difference - with the extended range, I would refuel every 3 sessions. So what

I wish my GT3 had the ER tank, I find myself refueling very often.

Hmm interesting. Typical track day for me is roughly 125 track miles. This is usually split across 4 to 6 sessions of 20 minutes each. On a 20 minute session, they’ll usually flag us within 18 minutes. I also cool down a little before then since the tires start give up at that’s point.

Gotcha, that makes sense. If your sessions are truly cut to 18 minutes of hard driving, then your fuel will make the stretch. I wish my car had the ER Tank, but it was one of the options the prior owner neglected....I'll survive....

See, that's my point. I have the standard tank, and I don't just "survive" with it, I actually prefer it for my mostly track use GT3. Even the extended tank will not last a whole typical DE day without gassing up at least once, same as I do with my standard tank. And I start the day with my car 42 lbs lighter!

Nothing wrong, really, with getting either tank. The OP wanted a counter argument, so I'm giving one.

I agree Palting - I was being a bit facetious with my "surviving" comment. I dont mind the smaller tank. And even if I had the larger tank, you can always just fill the tank half full so its lighter......I do that with when I am really wanting to set a time. But, you could do the same with the extended range tank. I dont know the weight difference from tank to tank with out fuel, but I would think its less than 10 lbs for the tanks themselves.

What’s the counter argument exactly? I’m failing to see one other than saving $140 if you don’t think thee is any benefit.

LOL. Okay.

Standard tank = 42 lbs lighter, need to gas up at least once in a typical DE track day.
Extended tank = 42 lbs heavier, still need to gas up at least once on a typical DE track day. And it costs $140 more, just to be 42 lbs heavier, which I guess is not a good thing?

Additional weight electively determined by the user...

I get about 90 miles out of a 23 gal tank, or I risk sudden limp mode at the track.
yellow light comes on at 2/4 with “50 miles to go” at around 1/4 tank I’ve gotten limp mode with 23 miles to go.

At Sebring you can absolutely not run two 25 minutes session on the small tank.

But you can personally decide how much to fill up with either tank. I could fill up less than the regular tank in my extended tank and be lighter! So no real advantage argument there...

So I’m still just down to saving $140?
