Default 991.2 manual GT3 - question about change in engine sound

While watching a Youtube vid (can't recall which) I noticed the low hum of the GT3 when the driver was puttering around town in low rpms. When he decided to accelerate, there was a dramatic change in tone mid-rpm (as if a flap opened?), rather than a progressive ramping up. I'm sure its just 'V-TECH kicked in yo!' but can anyone confirm if this change in sound is really that on/off apparent?

I know the car is an absolute screamer in the upper rpms where it belongs, but I must have never noticed this dichotomy before in the PDK equipped cars. Maybe it was just this particular video's audio recording, but the change in sound was so night/day that it almost sounded annoying. I'm sure this isn't the case in person, so can anyone lucky enough with a manual GT3 confirm how they interpret the sound?

Probably the exhaust flap opening - can be pretty sudden and unnatural sounding. Some owners have removed vacuum lines so flap is always open...

Most likely the exhaust flaps opening. PDK does it too just under 4K (I forget exact RPM, too busy driving when it happens)

Meh, I think people blow this exhaust flap thing out of proportion. Yes, the flaps open at like 3.5K - 4K. Yes, it's a sudden change in sound. But...

It really isn't that drastic. And it only really happens when you've got the pedal buried into the floor. And I think it sounds pretty damn good. It's definitely NOT like a total night/day or on/off change though.

Agree. Although I have PDK, I will occasionally go into manual mode just to listen to the engine rev up to about 5K under half throttle. Just before 4K, the trombones comes on, but in the background. Pretty subtle, IMO, if you can call anything in the GT3 subtle. Now, if I bury the throttle while cruising at about 55 MPH, that is an explosion!

Ah, I see. I've yet to have a go in a .2, but I can see how it might get overblown depending on how mics pic up audio in the various videos out there. How many of you have done the vacuum mod Grant is referring to?

In my hypothetical dream situation, I'm picturing my Oak Green Metallic Touring GT3 with that vacuum mod + a set of headers. Delightful.

There definitely is a noticeable transition in my PDK .2 GT3 from 3500rpm to 3800rpm and up due to the flaps under good throttle. A smoother transition would have been nice, but I am not complaining lol

Are you getting one, and when?

Absolutely.. I launch control directly out of my garage each morning, and even at a light I bounce off redline just in case.

It is possible to purchase an aftermarket exhaust valve bypass controller for Ferraris, which allows you to keep the valves open full-time if you prefer. Is this available in the aftermarket for the Porsche GT3?

I hated the transition.

I found it intolerable and much more pronounced than my .1. Disconnecting the valves was the best mod for the .2. Just sounds and feels more linear now

No silly sound symposer intake tube on the GT3, right? I disliked the sudden opening of that flap so much on my 991 CS that I immediately stuffed some foam in the tube. Much better!

installed the Carnewal PSE remote switch on my 997.2 GT3, which basically open/closes valves on the fly. I had the valves opened 99.9% of the time.
