Based on everything I read and what AP said, they will not be available until next year. The reason is the GT2 RS is taking most of the mag wheels..

Anyone else here find that claim about the mag wheel shortage a little hard to believe?

not really. BBS has been making them for years and outside of racing applications there’s been very little demand. past couple of years have seen only a handful show up on Rennlist and now almost every 2RS and I suspect a majority of 3RS are asking for them. that’s a volume increase you don’t flip a switch on overnight.

i suspect like of things in this space these days, Porsche and BBS didn’t expect the take-up rate they’re seeing.

Curious what you think (or perhaps know) about cost, performance characteristics, durability, etc. of magnesium vs. carbon fiber wheels in motorsport (ie, WEC, IMSA, etc.) and street applications.

I think there's a non-trivial chance we see a more exotic wheel material on all 992 GTx cars.

Why would Porsche lie about this? According to AP, Porsche takes 70% of the manufacturer orders. That's with the GT2RS orders. I suspect Porsche will fill those before filling the GT3RS orders.

The carbon wheel shortage is even more interesting.. how could they not plan for the uptake on those to be more?...

They are not a high production wheel so the shortage is not a surprise.

On a positive note we have them in stock in Satin Black and in Platinum right now.

I even have a set in the light gold landing this week. Will be posting up some pictures soon!

It takes forever to make a set anyway.

Right now the only car that can spec it is the Turbo S Exclusive. They are only make 500 coupe and 125 cabriolets. Not all 625 orders spec-ed the carbon wheels. I suspect the take rate might be ~200, 800 individual wheels.

What are the weights of the weights of the carbon wheels vs the Magnesium?

Are there any any other reasons why Porsche is not offering Carbon wheels on GT cars? Carbon wheels can’t take the load of a track car?

Sorry, I don't have any insight on carbon wheels beyond what's out there on the net.

I believe AP or Walliser (?) said that Carbon wheels were not appropriate for track cars.

Problem with carbon, it breaks it does not bend. I personally would not want them on a street car.

I was wondering how the weight of the magnesium wheels compares to the aftermarket options such as HRE?

With the 911 GT3 RS magnesium alloy wheels optionally available in conjunction with the Weissach package, the vehicle weight is further reduced by approximately
25.3 lb (11.5 kg)
