PEC - tipping?
#17
Amazing. Tipping has become like a guilty conscience socialism tax. Everyone making less money than you deserves extra money for doing their job correctly and professionally. I feel guilty about that so let me throw them some money.
You are going to pick up an overpriced but very nice car from a company that targets people who have been financially successful in life. They already have their hands deep inside your pockets and wait until you need service.
That instructor is a paid employee of someone, either Porsche or a contracted company. They are there to wow you into wanting to buy another one and stay brand loyal and now they need to be tipped? They are good at driving a car fast and telling you how they do it. That is how they got the job. No one is holding a gun to their heads. Seriously the upside to that job is not the cash, it is the fact that you get to drive a fast car......fast and as long as you don't have three heads and scare off the well heeled customers you get to keep doing it.
Whatever happened to people just be thanked for doing their job professionally for the sake of it or for the personal pride of doing a good job ?
When someone goes to Stuttgart to pick up their Porsche should you throw money at the line workers like strippers at a club? I mean they installed their part of the car correctly and didn't take a dump in the back seat or paint graffiti on the outside of it when it came down the line.
Do you throw money at the clerk at the Porsche dealership for answering the phone correctly? or to the SA who sold you the car because all the paperwork is correct?
How about the guy who delivered the donuts correctly to the waiting room at the dealership? They need extra cash too for getting there on time and having the right flavors and arranged correctly?
Where does it stop?
Oh, btw for the incoming haters, I do tip generously at restaurants for good service.

Sorry, I can't see bribing a guy whom I am already overpaying for a car.
I don't care about having a GT car that much. That's why I buy used or CPO. There will always be another latest and greatest coming that will be faster than what I have. I accept that and don't care to get into that rat race.

Tips are appreciated but not expected.
The coaches at the PEC are very professional and very underpaid. I don't know how the full time coaches live on their wage, especially in Southern California.
Most coaches accept the low wage for the love of instructing and the brand.
Most likely the your experience was with a part time coach and a full time coach. Part time coaches usually have another career and coach when available for the love, and might not want to be tipped.
As cool as the job is, the work is very difficult and the hours are long. Value to the client is high; professional instruction, a new porsche to drive, tires, gas, facility etc....
Coaches have to maintain a very enthusiastic attitude and ensure the safety of the client all day long, usually 4 sessions a day and no control of the type of driver they get assigned.
Tip if you feel you received exceptional service. If the coaches don't make enough income, they might not be able to continue the job they love and work so hard at delivering the highest quality experience.

I accept the Porsche tax but have to draw the line somewhere. Never owned a BMW and likely never will. They don't do anything for me.

I always tip when I get called to the head of grid for a lecture....... Learn something new each time!
Do some tip their dealer when they get an allocation or is it included in the ADM or all the previous cars bought there?

That is actually a nice insight for me on how to deal with all these tipping thing in the US. I just started to be in the US quite often and was always wondering how to tip, how much, when, etc.
I still feel awkward giving people money for what is normally a normal paid duty for doing similar job in ROW or just a favour. I don't actually know if I am not offending guys giving a few bucks or maybe by giving them too little. Tip jars in every place around. Tipping crew bus drivers, taxi driver, receptionist. I start to wonder if I should tip a guy in a street giving me some directions or a girl in a bar giving me a smile.
On the other hand maybe I should put a tip jar on my plane taking 300 passengers to the US? That would be awesome!

I redistributed that tip to the crew van driver both times.

Have you been to Starbuck's lately. They have a tip jar out. Every darn place you go there are tip jars. I am actually getting sick of all of this.
My Sales Manager asked me if we can put an incentive in place to sell more of a specific product. i said we pay or sales people salaries and they also get commission on everything they sell. Now you want to give them more. I just want people do their freakin job
Sorry - Rant over. I should be in a good mood. Headed to Mexico for Son's Spring Break. Freakin hung over and was at the airport bar at 6:00 am having a bloody- "Breakfast for Champions" as we say

I tip everyone and enjoy tipping. I did tip my instructor at the AMG driving academy. I also tipped the tech who just replaced my PDK a $100 bill. One of the most memorable for me was the lady who was cleaning the gym at the Aria in Vegas. I flipped her a $20 and said you work hard keeping this place clean. She almost cried which in turn made me almost cry.
