Who cares GT3.2 engine is better, gearbox is better, suspension is better, performance is better,
and guess what is naturally aspirated 9k rpm 6 speed manual transmission 4liters
no hybrid or damn turbo

RS demystified in my eyes, RS is an RS only to its own generation GT3 not a different kind of project

more aero and track perf only compared to 997.2 GT3 /3.8RS

limited doesn t mean better
but yeah it was the last pinnacle of NA/MT/911 combo until GT3.2 was born

997.2 GT3 RS 3.8/4.0 future classics!
best 911 last 30 years. ;-)

991.2 GT3 who cares. VW mass product without soul.

A post stamp desiderabilty and value is related to its scarcity not to its contents

is 997 a post stamp?

Who cares if 1 limited the other not
let s imagine both not limited and still in production
to objectively analyse the contents otherwise it' s a post stamp collectors discussion

No but a amazing real driving experience
unfiltered without RWS, TorqueV, EPAS, nanny shifter.
You are the driver (997) not only the operator (991)!

I see but just put the same air filters and
less restrictive 997 exhaust logic onto a GT3.2
engine, switch on and :D

x2

its like feeling being the red baron.
compared to an eurofighter jet pilot.

are there still tracks where the 997 4.0 is faster or do the same lap as a 991.1GT3RS?
I heard of the Pannonia Ring...

Sorry, but, it was not the question !
But if want to debate about that. let's talk about it and here is my opinion.
Better the 991.2 GT3, I don't think so. Different, I think so.
No better engine, for sure. the mezger is quite special , pushing hard from low rpms, not linear, with a true racing sound.
Ok, the limiter is at 8500 rpm so you're able to stay on lower gear with 991.2 GT3 and accelerate stronger.
ok the clutch and manual gear box are for men in the 997 RS 4.0 and the chassis is more "911" with understeer than the 991. The balance is more "911" style with the obligation to make a degressiv breaking before the curve to make the car turns.
and if you talk about performances, don't forget you can put slick tires on 997 RS 4.0, so, you can say bye bye to the 991.2 GT3 on a track considering also that the RS 4.0 is lighter.
but the question is not only with performances. Any way, it would be normal to point that the last is always the best.
But, it's also a question of pleasure, and in that area, RS 4.0 remains one of the best and may be the best opus of Porsche Motorsport.

Kinda lame pic. Wish I had gotten better pics of them together before I sold the UV. I miss the UV and hoping to replace with some kind of yellow .2 3rs.

A good fast horse, well made saddle, and the open range, those were the days........

Whether 997 4.0 is "last manual RS" blah blah blah. I think the fact it is manual is way down the list of items that make it a special car. Ironically, for me, PDKS is one of the features that's makes the 991 gt platform so amazing imo. I'm excited to try the new engine in .2rs. I felt like the 4.0 in .1rs was lacking character and low-end torque compared to 997 4.0; it felt a little sterile compared. But damn, that's a tough yardstick to compare almost any engine to. Engine in 997 4.0 is the highlight IMO. The tranny, meh, there's better out there. Regardless of the concerns around 3.8 problems eventually showing up in the .1rs 4.0 (which seem unfounded), I never felt like "wow, this engine is going to go down in history as one of the best". It was a solid power plant that got the job done, but I felt like the rest of the car was on a different level compare to the engine.

good point.

i think GT4, R, .2GT3 gearbox is better do a better "klick" / is "cleaner" as the 997 gearboxes.

I hope .2 engine is closer to par with emotion of old Mezger. PDKs and the manuals u listed above clearly better in all aspect than 997 tranny. Engine; still chasing Mezger in 4.0, but I reserve judgement until I get some seat time in my upcoming 991.2 gt3 and .2rs.
