Georg Kacher calling it - 992 GT3 is turbo (410kw)

The 991 GT3 is already the only Manual NA car available today, and it will only be produced for less than a full calendar year. If there has ever been a time when we can clearly see the direction in which cars are going.. this is it. Truly end of an era.. HODL on tight, and enjoy the ride, the NA sound, and the feel of a manual shift. This is it.

I am sure you track junkies won't care too much and I'm sure the car will put out blistering times.. but some of us care more about the sound of the car, the aural excitement, and the overall enjoyment rather than lap times. I am not stating that the GT3 should be more about fun than lap times, but I'm merely staying why I purchased the car over a McLaren or even a Turbo S.
Agree 100% with this statement. I hope they go turbo so I can stop buying these. Regardless of what they do, I will be driving mine, weather permitting, as much and as long as I can. Going Turbo makes my .2 a Keeper and I will enjoy it for many years to come. It will not sit in my garage hoping I could sell it for ( "X" +) 3 to 4 years down the road.

So true. There are so many GT cars from Porsche now that crossover at roughly the same price point and Gens it's a bloody melting pot of cars. How many are truly special now? There are only a few..

Both can be and are true. The next question is whether there will be a manual GT car going forward. I hope and think so given how successful the GT3 manual has been. The one "gap" in the line up is a high HP turbo manual RWD car. The current GTS is good, but it is not a GT car, and a 550hp turbo GT3 is not much more than the current GT3 when we all know 700hp is available in the GT2. I am not some die hard always NA fan boy, but I am a die hard always MT fan boy. Dusting off the crystal ball, I think we will see a 550hp turbo GT3 in your choice of manual or PDK, but then the higher HP 3RS and/or 2RS will be PDK only (and maybe hybrid). Boo. I want a widowmaker.

"The naturally aspirated engine is part of the GT3's DNA, Achleitner tells us, but the decision on turbocharging (or not) is driven by racing. If regulation favors turbos, Porsche will make the switch in order to remain competitive. On the 911 RSR race car, Porsche has even reversed the engine position for aerodynamic reasons, turning the 911 into a mid-engine car. But that won't happen to the 992 series production car, says Achleitner. Having two extra seats in the rear is a key selling point for the 911, especially in its home market."

Agree!

Turn the engine/tranny around to put the engine in front of the rear axle and eliminate the rear seats. Hmm... if only they already had such a thing available...

echo many of the comments in here. sad to see NA go, sure the new car will perform well on track but on the street (where most end up) you lose so much.
an emotional dimension lost for lap times. seems silly as ICE is on its way out anyway. we should be celebrating everything that made ICE cars great and being NA is a big part of that.

I think these very same sentiments were voiced by the 993 owners, the last of the air cooled, when Porsche announced they were going water cooled. It didn't matter that the then new water cooled 911 engines were so much better than the air cooled ones, they all still lamented the loss.
So, what will happen in the future? IMO, there will be avid Porschephiles raving about the turbo engined 911, enjoying the car both on and off the track, without looking back at the outdated NA engines. There will be a few holdouts lamenting about the loss of the NA engines. I love the water cooled 911, and when I see a 993, I go "WOW". But would I exchange my water cooled for an air cooled, even for daily driving? No way, man, just, no way. IMO, that will be the same sentiment in the future between turbo Porsche vs outdated NA Porsche
