I kind of equate the 997.2 rs as a really tarted up grand am GS car in that it started life as as full production car and then gets a lot of pieces and weight reduction done to it. It's definitely got a "competitive" car feel but I would have NEVER compared it to a legitimate porsche cup, and it wasn't the gearbox that was the difference...it really was a feel thing. My 996 cup even had way more focus and pure purpose to it if that makes any sense. The 991.1 RS on the other hand REALLLLLLY gets rather close in the "feelings" department of a late gen 997.2 cup/991 cup. It's hard to explain but it's got this chassis focus and balance to it that, and I've never said this about another street car ever, completely makes me want to go back to racing. I know none of that is empirical...but I've been the same person who has felt that nothing could ever come close to the experience a real, factory built racecar provides for the longest time. The 991.1 RS just hit that point for me in a way I've not experienced in a road car (MAYBE 458 speciale aside...that thing is another example).
