I dd my gt3 year round and about two years ago, I’ve had experience with repainting my bumpers in fashion grey pts after some damage needed repairing. Turned out perfect as far as I can tell. Also repainted a wheel. Took them longer to figure out but I think they eventually got it right (they probably got the wrong code initially). My shop was the one the dealership recommended and is certified by Porsche. Apparently they were in contact with the factory about matching paint.

Well, one week into my McLaren 570S ownership, when I wasn't used to its dimensions yet, I backed into a column in my driveway (yes, I know what stupid means) and scraped part of the plastic bumper. I am good friends with the local BMW body shop's manager and trust him blidndly (to fix cars, that is) so I took it to him. McLaren would not release the paint code to him!!! They sold him the paint. Guess what? It didn't match perfectly so he "played with" the formula. I was unable to tell the small section was repainted. I tried to google the paint code and realized McLaren holds that secret tightly. And it was a standard color.

To the OP, I would not worry about PTS matching as the Porsche PTS color codes are public knowledge and as others said, any reputable body shop can match it.

Feel better about what? Buying a new car? What are you worried about exactly?

IF you get an allocation, and IF you get PTS, and IF you get some form of paint damage, you are worried about the paint matching? Thats a lot of IFs. Perhaps take it one step at a time...

Yeah, not sure I'd be worried about paint matching a PTS color...worry about the first problem at hand, getting an allocation. Then drive it!

Worried is too strong a word guys. I did say curious. At any rate, it's something I've wondered (better?) about so glad to get some opinions.

I don't have anything further to do with regards to allocations. It's not the same in Canada as it is in the US. It's out of my hands now, just have to sit, wait and follow-up.

Sam:
Are you sure that your McLaren dealer doesn't
have some personal animosity or another reason
for distrusting the BMW body shop you chose to
repair your 570S?

Also, the right primer is key to get the hue to
match existing factory paint. For example,
'Ventura Orange Pearl' needs to be applied
over a specific white primer & slowly built-up
in 'light coats'. All quality paint repairs involve
'playing' with the color, the primer & number of
coats to get it to match an original factory finish!

Regardless, I doubt McLaren's corporate policy is NOT
to share a paint formula with a legitimate automotive
repair facility. Such policy, if it were to exist, might even
be a violation of commerce laws in our country. Perhaps
there is something else involved in that decision by your
McLaren dealer which is not being disclosed to you.

We have a member of this gt3 forum who happens to be
a McLaren dealer here in Scottsdale & perhaps he might
want to address your concerns regarding their paint formula
policy.

But I am certain that PAG & PCNA, and their factory paint
suppliers, have no issue providing legitimate repair facilities
with the color formulas for hues they have used to paint a
customer's Porsche at the factory.

Jamie,

recommend you download the glasurit APP from the App Store - within the APP you can find any Glasurit color and mixture that any proper paintshop can mix for you - very easy and you can navigate every year or production porsche in the APP..

Hope this helps,

Helmut

I had the same experience with Mclaren when trying to get the paint code for Vermillion Red. They will sell you/your body shop the paint itself at crazy cost, but won't release the code. I work for an auto OE and even tried pulling strings with the supplier (AkzoNobel), but didn't get anywhere.
