you must love paying taxes. To a government that wastes 99.99% of it by stealing it for their own personal interests and benefits
anyone who evades taxes here and gets away with it. You the real MVP in my eyes.

Sorry if I’m dense, but i still don’t understand. Can a police officer pull you over for having Montana plates? If he does, can he fine you for those, or does he report you to the state’s tax authorities.
OR
Does one get into tax trouble when the state looks at tax records or something completely separate from police enforcement. Basically.. does the cop have any jurisdiction over this aspect?
Let’s drop the pretexts about this being anything but tax avoidance.. I’m happy acknowledging that I’m curious purely for that purpose.

In other words, "yes" to all of your questions, except for the tax liability issue, which is a Franchise Tax Board matter for the AG to enforce.

Hello Lodi, I did this a few years ago. Since then many dealers now refuse since ga started cracking down. I also had an attorney in MT give his opinion and he said I could very well be charged under ga law. I don't do it any more. I Just pay tax and move on. Take care, hugh
Thanks All! Great info!

Personally I think it is pretty silly to try to evade these registration costs - huge downside, and as said above, everyone knows what is being done when people have Montana plates in California, as an example.
In California, there are a ton of Montana plates and the LE folks that I know are on top of it, and they are enforcing it aggressively...especially when confronted with bright flashy cars that they see over and over in the same area over a period of time more than 30 days...that is the period that they would need to be registered in that state...

Haha Thanks. I've always liked the "less is more" concept and that applies to what you say after you get pulled over. The few times that I have been pulled over for speeding, the cops didn't give a second thought about the MT plates. The Ticket Clinic is one of the best companies I have ever used....4 tickets with 4 dismissals. I don't mind taxes but when they go into an a nimby pension black hole I do mind.

I also see a lot of Idaho plates in Southern California. I may switch my registration to Idaho after a year in Montana, as I have friends and a business interest in Idaho. Then no attention at all from cops. Also, Idaho does not require a front plate.

You are either breaking the law or you are not. If the the car is garaged out of MT, don’t have a MT DL, not sure how this is legal, but rather a form of tax evasion. Car gets stolen/into accident good luck putting a claim in. There are several members that cheat and proud of it. It is stealing and very risky. Afford a 200K car manage the tax/DMV fees. Lame

My favorite is usctrojan running around the board bragging on ever post he has a 4.0 and complaining about stealers and flippers being bad and he didn’t even pay taxes on that 4.0! This braggart and tax evader wants to be our moral compass and looks down on others?
