Gulf Orange and Pastel Orange in Texas
Can anyone in Texas show me Gulf Orange and/or Pastel Orange on a Porsche?
I'd like to see the difference in real life. I have not seen either color in real life.
I live in the DFW area, but am willing to drive anywhere to see the colors. I will order my 991.2 GT3 in Orange.
Thanks.

Here's a picture of a PTS 991.1GT3 in Pastel Orange:
Gulf orange has more red in it as you can see parked next to a RS Orange Caymen (RS Orange is very close if not equal to Pastel Orange):
I went with Pastel!
Good luck!

'Oranges'...

I have seen both. Prefer 'Pastel' to 'Gulf'.
But that is very personal & I encourage
you to see them in person before ordering.
Here is my own personal hierarchy of Porsche
Solid/Uni 'Oranges' as I would rank them for
what is worth (2 cents):
1) 'Signal Orange' (116) - Not presently available via PTS
2) 'RS Orange' (8C6) - Not presently available via PTS
3) 'Continental Orange' (107)- Not presently available via PTS
4) 'Orange' - (5711) - '57-'59 356 - Not presently available via PTS
5) 'Tangerine/Blutorange' (018) - Not presently available via PTS
6) 'Pastel Orange' (Z17) - Available via PTS
7) 'Lava Orange' (M2A) - Available as 'Special Color' and/or PTS
8) 'Gulf Orange' (019) - Available via PTS
And here is al old photo of Porsche 'Orange' colors
together that might give the readers a perspective:

close or equal to 'RS Orange'. The 'Pastel' might
appear in above photo to remind you of 'RS Orange'
...but that is not the case in real 'life'!
I do have a photo in my files of a PTS 'Gulf' 997
& a 'RS Orange' Boxster in background which shows
somewhat the contrast between these two colors!

Just to be clear, 'Pastel Orange' does NOT look
close or equal to 'RS Orange'. The 'Pastel' might

Eduardo, you know I would never question the master when it comes to colors! It's my bad- in prior threads you had stated that Porsche had added Pastel Orange as a replacement for RS Orange. I thought that meant they were the same, obviously not!
You will be happy to know that my color selection is based on your personal preference, I changed from Gulf to Pastel Orange when putting in my order.
Either way I don't think you can lose! Kyrocks I still have you with Gulf until you tell me otherwise!

I think we suffer from "wanting what we think we can't have syndrome.".. let me say that if LAVA Orange were an unobtainable color, people would go nuts talking about it and describe it as some perfect genius blend between the sun and a Phoenix on fire or some poetic crap like that.. because in reality it's truly a beautiful, balanced, and inspired shade. But, now that all we have to do is click a button on the configurator and "only" pay $4500... it's suddenly not on the radar.
While we were at Smokies GT there was a parking lot full of multicolor Porsche's, including some really rare stuff like my driver for the event which was a 911R SCG with stripes.. a gorgeous rare care by any standard.
But as I stood there and looked at all of them, Sgroer's and Tony Missions LAVA red gt3RS with black wheels and red calipers, stood out as the most beautiful in real life of the whole group.
All this babbling of mine just to say.. don't overlook lava orange.. in real life it looks very very special and just so goldilocks right.

RS Orange...
You are right on both counts!

Sorry if that confused you Andre, But no, PAG
does NOT discontinue a color (e.g. 'RS Orange')
just to introduced another one with the exact
same hue but calls by a different name & color
code.
The case of 'RS Orange' merits some discussion.
It was introduced to much acclaim in the 2007
gt3 RS as a 'special color' just for that model!
I liked it from day one. And I tried twice to
buy a 997 gt3 in this color (PTS)! But I truly
didn't fully appreciate its full beauty until it
was no longer available via PTS...and then
I was truly sorry I never pulled the trigger!
Here is a brief history of the color:
'RS Orange' remained exclusive (not available
via PTS) to the gt3 RS in MY2007. But in
MY2008, it was added to the PTS list. And
we saw it ordered on at least one base gt3
which sold new in Texas & which I almost
bought in 9/'09 when it was traded in on
a Ferrari at a dealer in Utah (Steve Harris
Imports in Salt Lake City)!:
For sure some 911 Turbos (including this one
that belonged to a Rennlister Coochas ) was
ordered PTS in this color...
As was this MY2009 gt2 which tells us exactly
the color on its Certificate of Authenticity!

That same year (MY2008) PAG decided to do
a limited edition Boxster in this potent color!

And in MY2009, Porsche introduced a limited
edition Cayman S in both 'RS Orange' & 'RS
Green':

The last year that 'RS Orange' was available
via PTS was MY2010. We saw at least two
'RS Orange' .2 997 gt3s in that color. One
was at the Collection in Miami. The other
was at Porsche of Roslyn. I tried to negotiate
buying the'10 gt3 at Roslyn when it came up
for sale used in Dec of 2010. Again, we could
reach a deal & I passed on it.
When I was ordering a MY2012 Boxster Spyder
in 2011, I contacted Porsche about the possibility
of doing 'RS Orange' via PTS on this car. That
is when PAG Germany informed me that 'RS
Orange' was no longer available via PTS. But
if I wanted an orange color, they could do for
me 'Pastel Orange'. And the folks at 'Porsche
Exclusive' sent me this photo of a vehicle they
had just done in 'Pastel':
'Pastel Orange 'replaced' 'RS Orange' only
in the sense that it was the only solid/uni
orange (at the time) you could order via
PTS from Porsche. But it is quite different
color formula from 'RS Orange'. PAG added
'Gulf Orange' a few years later. But since,
PAG has denied approval on 'Tangerine/
Blutorange', 'Continental Orange' & 'Signal
Orange'! That has been quite depressing
news for us that love the historic orange
colors that featured so prominently in
Porsche's history:
Over time, I believe my gut instincts on 'RS
Orange' proved correct. I believe it will go
down in history as one of the best 'Orange'
formulations ever produced by Porsche. And
briefly, in the 918 Spyder program, it was
allowed to be ordered by one lucky individual:
That gave me hope that it might be resurrected
for PTS in the other models. But, that has not
yet been the case. I truly miss 'RS Orange'!
And I hope they bring it back one day!

Good for you! 'Pastel Orange' is a proper if bright
orange hue! It rates well in my preferred list:
1) 'Signal Orange' (116) - Not presently available via PTS
2) 'RS Orange' (8C6) - Not presently available via PTS
3) 'Continental Orange' (107)- Not presently available via PTS
4) 'Orange' - (5711) - '57-'59 356 - Not presently available via PTS
5) 'Tangerine/Blutorange' (018) - Not presently available via PTS
6) 'Pastel Orange' (Z17) - Available via PTS
7) 'Lava Orange' (M2A) - Available as 'Special Color' and/or PTS
8) 'Gulf Orange' (019) - Available via PTS
