Default Sound symposer in the GT3

Does the new 991 gt3 have the synthesized sound piped into the cabin as in the other 991 models? The reviews say it sounds great. The mezger sounded great without any enhancement, a very mechanical sound. The old air cooled motors sounded good but a lot of it was the fan noise. Just wondering what the system is in the 991 gt3.

To the best of my knowledge, No. It's 100% natural.

No 991 has synthesized sound piped in. The "symposer" is a valve and tube to pipe iintake manifold noise to the cabin is "sport" mode. The sound is real but not all that interesting, even when the engine is screaming. PSE makes up for it nicely.

With its totally different intake setup and very likely a desire to feature the sound of 9K rather than to muffle the engine for "touring" mode, I would bet that Porsche engineered the GT3 to sound a whole lot louder and more visceral than the rest of the lineup without resorting to a pipe- and PSE is standard.

BMW is moving to an artificial video-game like engine noise through their audio systems. M5/M6 have it. It sounds great...but you wouldn't know if the car was powered by 4 electric motors.

Porsche is using an acoustic bridge between internal induction noise and the cabin. I can get behind that.

I've got an M5 and it does not sound great. It sounds very ordinary.

Conekiller is right. There is no augmented intake or exhaust sound, piped in via audio, tube, or otherwise, in the new GT3. There's nothing between the exhaust and engine sounds and your ears, except air.

I used to love clothes pinning playing cards to the front fork on my sting ray bike.

To my ear, there does seem to be the same cabin resonance and reverberation that the "symposer" (could Porsche have been any more ironic with that term?) creates in the Carrera cabin. It's not nice. It's not there with the same obnoxious falsity of the Carrera, but it does seem to be there.

Maybe someone has an engine diagram or something showing the intake. All I can see is vanity covers ... nice, carbon fiber looking panel, but still, unless it helps with airflow and cooling or keeping the rain out or the intake cold, I'd rather they just open up the engine bay and show us whatever little can be seen.

There is no symposer in the new GT3 confirmed by techs at my dealership. I have full engine replacement photo chronicle for my engine (30+ pictures) - tell me what you want to see and Ill post it...

Something showing the intake assembly, plenum, chambers before/after air filter.
Maybe it's just resonance through the firewall, either way, there's some noise being transmitted. Nowhere near as obnoxious as the 'poser. I'd go so far as to say the exhaust note is more impressive than the 997.2 RS 3.8 ... maybe that's the honeymoon feeling ...

The sound of the engine in the cabin is indeed more impressive than the 3.8RS in my first hand impression too. Actually out of all the P cars Ive owned including my track 993 which has a very loud engine I think the 991 GT3 sounds the best of all...

Heres a few pictures - Im not sure they cover what you want? I have alot of pictures but not sure what to look for....

3rd from bottom you can see the engine sound pad (black) and I cant see any compromises to it which would let sound through to the cabin...

I don't mind piping in induction noise into the cabin - it's a great idea. What I despise is BMW's audio-system based solution that changes the sound of the engine. The M5 sounds like a V8 - but it's impossible to sound like a v8 with how they cross route cylinder manifolds from opposing banks to each turbine scroll. It physically sounds like a flat plane 4 from the exhaust tips, but a normal v8 on the inside. They did the same with the M3, though it does not alter the character as much.
