Default Change rear pads, quick question

Hi,

I'm planning to change the pads on my 987.2 this weekend. When I called dealership to order the parts, I was told I also need to get the mouting kit and sensor to change with the pads.

Do I really have to get the new mounting kit and sensor? cann't I resuse the existing ones if they're in good shape?

If the sensors haven't been activated then they can be reused.

The only other thing(s) I would get are the pad dampers.

The spring and pin can be reused. I like to clean them up with a wire brush and lube contact points with sylglide.

Yup, can reuse, as noted above. Sensors can become a bit brittle after being subjected to braking heat / use... so, be gentle with them during removal, else they can crack and kinda fall apart in your hand.

I would say it depends on what shape your sensors and mounting hardware are in. These sensors have wires that are easy to damage during service. So it may not be a bad idea to have these parts on hand just in case.

You also don't need the pad dampers. I use anti-squeal paste instead. The dampers can sometimes get jammed in the pistons requiring a lot of effort to remove. I only recall seeing them on the front brakes in my car.

BigTree, you can get aftermarket sensors for about half the price. As Dave mentioned, the sensor gets brittle and can break easily when you remove them. You might order a set to have on hand if needed. OTOH, if you've just put new pads in, you have plenty of time to order them afterwards if you don't mind popping the wheel off again to install later.
