Default Not Even A Newbie

Dear Porsche Owners,

I'm not yet a Porsche owner so i'm not even a newbie.

I currently drive a Z3. I want to move up to a Porsche.

I've been reading on this forum for weeks. Been looking nationwide for my first 987 Boxster for months.

My question, how do i convince my wife to let me get one? We have the money, I have the ability to maintain it. I just can't get her over the hump.

I really do want my next post to be about my new 987.

Thanks,
Mike

Take a test drive with her as the passenger?

If that does not do it, then you need a new wife.

Good luck,

Eddie

I would think most wives don't care what's in the garage......as long as her closet and house don't suffer because of it ..........Phil

don't know what to tell you.

After 30 years of marriage, and 8 previous sports cars (and 3 motorcycles), I told my wife a month ago "I want to drive to Va to look at a couple of Porsche Caymans. Wanna come along?" She said "That means I'll have to drive home alone?"

Actually, the seller an I worked out a shipping deal.

My wife made me buy a Porsche (after I went into deep depression from lack of having a fun car ) and she won't let me sell the Spyder....

I suggest figuring out a way to get her excited about the car, maybe part of the deal is to plan some trips in the car together for short getaways.

Good luck.

Marine, thanks for the suggestions. I do think if she could realize the fun we could have, i'd get her on board.

Well, even at 3 toys in 20 years, she should know what's gonna happen!

...and actually, I had one bike and 2 sports cars when we got married, so it's really only been 6 cars and 2 bikes during our marriage. And one of those was a 914 "...for my daughter to drive to school"

But when I tell her "I'm thinking about buying ...", she know its just a matter of time until I find the right one.

You've got a Z3, so you're having a sports car doesn't seem to be the issue. You're not looking to spend $100K or so on a used 981 Spyder or a nearly new 911. You need to have a straight up heart to heart and ask her what the issue is with your swapping the Z3 for a used Boxster. Something's up here and I'm not sure it's really the car that's the issue. There's more going on here. And no, I'm not a psychiatrist. A doc yes, but not a shrink. Good luck! Hope you guys work it out.

Rational approach: lay out a case for how the Z3 needs to go (pending repairs, critical mileage, latest expose on exploding BMW's), and how the 987 will be way better (more reliable, economic, practical--e.g. two trunks!).

Sympathy approach: sell the Z3, and then mope around the house about how sad life is without a sports car, and hope your wife will take pity and encourage you to buy another.

Poker bluff approach: start talking about your lifelong dream to own a new 991 turbo, and how dedicated you are to buying one no matter the cost, followed by a compromise to settle for a 987.

Bkrantz, that's way too funny. Since I've already tried the rational approach, I'll start working on the poker bluff approach.

Bring it home and ask for forgiveness rather than permission... With the appropriate gift of (fill in the blank) for her of course.
