Default New To Me 987S

Hey everyone!

Some know me from the 944 sections and or countless 944 Rallies, 944Fest and Florida/GA Events.

Well on with it... I recently (in the past 4 months) purchased my first P car outside the 944/924,928s and i got a 2007 Boxster S. Some say i went to the dark side, others think I should have done it all along. But I say, Why the hell not? anywhosie quick back ground on the car and my thoughts. I have been in the market for quite some time now for a 986 or 987 and it had to have all the options i was looking for the color and the wheels. If I'm spending the money I will wait for something close or what I'm looking for. So I found this one and everything checked out fine. I'm a technician myself so I went around the car shook it to death, bore scoped it, yada yada. It needed a few things but I think I got a good deal on it within 500plus miles that I was willing to go for one. It needed a few things and having access to world pac and doing the labor I wasn't concerned.

All in all i bought it with 64K knowing it was about that time to start seeing some sorts of issues. I did the brakes all around, coils,( which the coils are superseded to 997 coils with longer bolts) plugs, water pump, 71C t-stat, strut top mounts, 2 rear Michelin PS2s, belt, rollers, gearbox oil, brake flush, both door handle pivot arms, and i did a iSimple bluetooth install and that thing is what a 987 needs and the stupid soft touch sticky as gun paint! got rid of it all It hasn't been bad at all, the labor is super easy on one these cars, everything is easy to get to and its fun. Now she has 76K .....in 4 months :evil grin:

She is a totally blast! I drive her every day never left me stranded super reliable and great on gas. i just got back from VIR and going back to GA for another mountain run with the 944 guys on Nov 12. I don't regret the purchase at all and i have many many mods on the way. Some know my 951 is well modded and was a daily for years. soooo now I'm bored with the quiet 987S and Im ready to make her a little more raw.

Here is a few pictures and anything I should know for the future I should know or look out for let me know please much help and communication with you all is most appreciated! and i have pictures of what i have done and i will post on what i am going to do and i am more than happy to help anyone with anything as well 944 or 987 =D

The day I bought it from Porsche Of Orlando

No PSE but thats okay

Super Easy to do I highly recommend it and it cost 5 bucks.

VIR i dont fit in.. =(

Welcome to mid-engine heaven! Love your build and I'm partial to that wheel on the 987. I had it on my Seal Grey '05 S, below, and thought it just looked "right" on the car. Looking forward to your driving impressions compared to the transaxle cars you are so used to. Congrats!

Your 944-series friends will forgive you... eventually ;-)

Welcome to the 987S. Sounds like you are already experiencing all the goodness these cars have to offer. I used to pull the roof out of my '88 944 NA and '92 968 a lot, but nothing like the convenience of just pushing a button for open air. Love it.

I'll be curious to get your feedback on the differences in these cars. Although the 944 series interiors were really pretty good, I've found the 987 to be reasonably contemporary while still having a bit of old-world Porsche charm. It won't haul furniture like my 944 and it won't haul a set of race wheels and tires on a factory roof rack while full of pop-up tents, tools, coolers, and such, like my 968... but it holds plenty of stuff for two people. Two trunks and being designed from the ground up as a convertible... everything seems to be pretty well thought out.

First thing I noticed in driving the car is how quickly it can be rotated. Compared to the dumbbell weight distribution of the 944/951/968 engine/transaxle hanging on opposite ends of a torque tube, these cars can change direction so much faster. Very nice. Decades of advances in suspension development doesn't hurt either.

My original 158 hp 944 just flat out delighted me. Drove it for many years and many DE's, year round. The 968 was nice, but heavier, quickly becoming E-stock and SP3. But the 987S has proven to be a similar delight, akin to my first 944 experience. Daily driving pleasure, great road tripper (2300 mile VT trip with spouse to Parade this summer), and pretty handy grocery getter. Yep. Still pretty delighted with this one.

You've picked two excellent P-car platforms to have experienced. 'Course, I'm a little biased ;-)

Thanks you for the words! Well not new to forum but to this section by the way the 987 981 and 718 are all quite different they really should sub sections this. But yes the steering is sublime! Brakes are pretty much the same to me. The handleing.. well they are two totally different beast from different times. I'm not going to lie I am more biased to the 944/951 but the 987 corners flatter, loads of turn in and you point and shoot. But my 951 is also predictable like the 987 but puts a bigger smile on my face as I like to work hard for my pleasure I guess haha.. Dave I totally agree with you on being biased! I have been with 944s for 8 years now and have had 928 and 924s and a e30 as well and they are great dailies and thrills for days!

The sounds of a flat six though... makes my day every day =D!

Thanks! It did when it has 64k but the 12k I put on it in the last few months has put rock chips on the bumper but that's okay. And the sport seats are still in great shape and so is the rest of the interior. I will be installing a 987 to 997 gt3 front bumper( not full conversion because it isn't a gt3) and it's a waste of money at that. Also a 987 CS rear bumper with the bigger wing. That's all for body but I'll get to work with the engine even sooner!

Very nice, also great list of options. I'm also in the market for 987S.

Congrats on the new Porsche! Note that if you want to keep that black paint looking perfect get a clear bra for it.

I too came from a water cooled front engine and all it took was one test drive to convert me. The 928 is an amazing car and way ahead of its time but it's hard to argue that it is a GT car and doesn't have the sharp / precision handling of the 987. Ideally I would like to have both..perhaps some day.

Enjoy in good health

M5miemer, thanks! I was in the market for about a year before I found this one! It yeah it needs those options in my opinion! I was considering 986 for a while but the improvements in the 987S if in the budget are worth it in my opinion. I chose 07 not for the 3.4 but simply the improved plastics and how the ***** and buttons don't wear out like the 05 06s. But the 3.4 is nice!

Marine blue, thank you and you as well! The first thing I did when I brought it home was bust out the compound and polish microfiber pads and went to town on it! I use AMMO products and put larrys skin and other products on it and it's still perfect! And yes good advice on the clear bra I will do that once the new bumper is on! My first Porsche was a 928S and it's a great gt car like you said but 944 and 951 are superior to me. And the 987S is even better in some aspects!

I love my 09S and would never trade it. Start, stop, and acceleration are out of this world.
