Default 987.1 Hot starting problem, fuel pump? just check valve?

2006 Boxster 2.7, 71k miles, don't drive it a ton, but enough and more lately.

I live in Phoenix and travel to Vegas sometimes.

It's summer, it's HOT, 105+

Problem happens when it's hot and you park the car then start it (or try to start it!) not to much longer after it's parked.

happened 3 times now, it just seems like not getting fuel, keep cranking it, after a few attempts it finally starts, sputters a bit, then once it gets going it runs perfect.

Have been told its likely the fuel pump and more specifically the check valve which seems like it can be replaced independently of the fuel pump.

I guess i should come up with a question soon,

Check valve seem likely?

would you replace check valve only or the pump as well? i think pump is much much more $ so probably not too hip on replacing whole pump.

how likely is it that it's something else? what can I check/do without taking it in for costly diagnoses if i can help it?

thanks!
