Less than one week to go

BTW, John - I'm having my car cleaned up by my detailer over the weekend. If you want to use it for some video of the GT420 package, let me know if I should be there earlier (although we're already starting pretty early).

I want to stop by and see it in action, I'm only 20 min from Fabspeed.
Please pm me if you don't mind.

Thx
Pete

Not a problem. We're doing it next Wednesday, the 6th. I'm getting there around 7:30am. Hopefully they'll have enough time to shoot some video before they pack up for the day.

...but it kills me to pay more for less power by going with the cats
EPA is great and all, but i've lost respect after they tried to weasel away our race cars. I'll admit I had a smug look on my face when I passed emissions with flying colors with our Race Headers installed

George that is great! Dave and Spock are quite excited haha. I think we should still be on point at 7:30

John - I have a solution for your depression caused by hp envy - 4.0 conversion...

You're welcome for the advice and we'll all be waiting for the build thread

Is this an all day install? Just wondering approximately what time to show up?

I think John said somewhere around 8 hours to do all the components and tune. I'm adding an extra step in that I'm having them code the ECU for the TB before the Cobb tune so that I can remove the tune before taking the car to my dealer for service and not worry about the TB throwing a code. I'm not sure how much time that will add to the process. If we get the car in right at 7:30, I'm thinking we should be done around 3:30. I'll let John chime in with a better timeline when he has a chance.

LOL thanks a lot Steve! If getting teased by a 3.8L build wasn't bad enough, here comes the 4.0L swaps

3:30pm would be best case scenario but considering a TB calibration, lunch break for the techs, and some possible video/pictures (if you're still up for it!) we would likely be pushing the 4:30-5pm mark.

Thanks for stopping by Pete! It was a pleasure to meet you, and look forward to seeing you again soon. Feel free to chime in on George's thread

https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...installed.html

The drive to NJ to deliver the Spyder and pick up my car was incredible. Valves closed the exhaust configuration is docile and comfortable, with minimal resonance in the cabin even under high gear load between 2000-3000rpm. Valves open and the sound turns into a gorgeous wail into the higher rpms. Enough overall sound level to unconsciously accelerate next to the concrete divider and under every overpass with the windows down for the full experience. However, not loud enough IMO to cause any discomfort when doing so.

Funny story, there was a somewhat annoying Prius next to me on the NJ Turnpike matching my cruising speed too long for comfort. Bringing the RPMs up to about 3400rpm in 6th, lifting off throttle, and Just touching the pedal as it fell below 3000rpm caused a series of thunderous burble/overrun that had me busting a gut laughing as the Prius moved over a lane and backed away. What a lovely feature

Upon dropping off the Spyder to George and picking up my Cayman R for the drive home, several things immediately stood out in comparison between the two cars.

1. The shifter in the Spyder is much tighter with shorter throw and better feel. My shifter felt sloppy with throw so long it might have taken a lunch break before reaching the next gear

2. The clutch engagement point is much farther down in pedal travel in the 987.2....

3. The brakes on the Spyder have fantastic initial bite, and confidence inspiring/progressive pedal feel. Coming up to the first stop sign on my way home, I nearly rolled into the intersection as the CR brakes felt like a brick with little initial bite, requiring substantial brake pressure to accomplish the same performance as the Spyder. Payday will result in Pagid Yellows or Ferodo DS1.11, possibly new rotors.

4. My happiness with the sound of my 3.4L with Race Headers and factory PSE has reached it's end. More overall sound level and aggressive overrun is needed and will be accomplished with a 987.2 specific version of the GT4/Spyder Valvetronic Exhaust System.

5. Hill assist on both vehicles throws me off and I don't like it...Pete knows what i'm talking about haha.

Overall I am very very impressed with the Spyder. The potential sound and performance is astonishing, and the development of 981 chassis is a night and day improvement over the 987.2. It is worth every penny more in value, but still wish they had kept hydraulic steering for better feedback with the road. To note, the Spyder feels like the more exciting street-driven experience over the GT4 although I would always choose the GT4 for it's overall better track potential.
