Default Disk on outside of Boxster S transaxle

What does the indicated disk on the outside of this Boxster S transaxle do? I am using this transaxle on a home built car and the disk is in the way of a frame tube that I want to add. Can I remove the disk and the linkage?

Many Thanks,

Enzo

It is simply a counter weight to help you with the shifting feel. I removed it from my race car and saved 1.8 lbs.

Frank:

Thanks for the info. Makes sense. It seemed like it wasn't hooked up to anything.

It will move when you shift but the linkages are prone to come loose and just dangle around anyway.
