Question Cayman S sports exhaust working?

I bought a 2013 Cayman S with PSE - it sounds great! However, switching it on or off doesn't seem to make any difference to the sound. I can see that when its idling the actuators are moving when I turn it on or off but the sound doesn't change, even when I'm driving with window open and letting it rev. Like I say, it sounds great but I don't know if this is off or on! When I drove a 991 with PSE the difference was really clear, even at idle. So, could I have a problem here? Ideas appreciated. Thanks, Jonah.

On mine, the difference is obvious because there's a ton of (awesome) popping and crackling on throttle lift-off, and it's significantly louder when throttle is applied.

I have both cars with PSE and what you're hearing is true. Most of it is because most of what you're hearing inside the Cayman is intake and engine noise, not exhaust. The Cayman has one of the noisiest interiors of any production car and turning off the PSE has no affect on those elements at all. Outside the car there is a difference, particularly on decel.

That said, I also think the PSE makes more of a difference on the 991 as well.

Be sure to turn it on via the sport button and not the exhaust button. Much bigger difference in sound doing it that way.

The sport button does nothing at all to the exhaust sound except for turning on the sport exhaust, i.e., it does the exact same thing that pressing the exhaust button does.

The only difference will be throttle response and shift points, but at the same throttle position, the PSE will sound exactly the same regardless of how it was turned on.

Agreed, mine sounds the same regardless of how it's turned on!

Thanks for all responses. Not sure I am hearing much intake noise from the engine, but I do hear the exhaust (a lot!). Also agree that activating it by the Sports button doesn't make a difference either. Just seems odd that there is such a pronounced difference in the 991. Does anybody have experience of PSE in other models?

Again, I have both of those cars with PSE. What you are hearing is normal for each car.

Hello Spanker,

What you have stated is not an uncommon complaint, and one we have heard too often. If you would like to take your vehicle to the next level and truly have a mild to wild setup at the push of a button, we have a solution called the TrackTec Valved Bypass Exhaust System. It will work off of your factory PSE controls, but offer an amazing improvement in sound and performance. Take a look and contact me with any questions or interest. I would be happy to work with you to meet the goals you have for your vehicle.

Something is off, if valves open, you will definitely hear a difference in sound.
