Default Preliminary hunt

Greetings gents,
I slummed over from the 996 forum. I am in the preliminary hunt for a Cayman S. I came across a car for sale that has every option I want. But, the calipers are yellow. Did any Cayman come with that option? The front bumper cover is obviously not stock. Not saying I would jump on this one but I was curious as to the calipers. I don't necessarily want a bastardized S.

Those yellow calipers suggest PCCBs which are very desirable. To some... This is a high$ factory option actually.

Hmmm. The plot thickens in a good way. I should have Google'd that before I posted because the answer was there. Thanks for the help! I may dig deeper on this one.

Add the VIN after the equal sign (=) and that will tell you what options are from the factory.

FYI: PCCB is about an $8,000 option.

I think the bumper cover modification would be the most controversial part about the exterior of that Cayman.
You might try to find out more about how the car was used.
If it was tracked a lot, and especially if it doesn't have engine oiling mods, it could have some hidden engine damage or fatigue.
It looks lowered a bit to me too, but that is fairly common and not always a sign of track use.

Do you have the full maintenance history on the car? Looks pretty nice to me.

Not sure on the service history. I had a friend stop by and put some eye ***** obit since in in FL and its a CA car. It has a few cosmetic issues for the discerning eye but nothing unsettling.

I like it since it has Sport Chrono Plus. I don't want a Cayman without that but they appear to be unicorns. I may pass on this one since the dealer didn't seem to know much about it. The hunt continues or I just wait to get an IMS free 09.

How come dealer not knowing about it is a problem? Dealer cannot know exact history of every car they have. Cars get traded in, sent to auctions, purchased by other dealer, etc..

If it has everything you want, you might want to just order a PPI and get it!

They look big enough in the picture to be PCCB.

They were confirmed to indeed be pccb's. The sale of my 996 fell through so I may miss out on this one.

I do remember you from the 996 forum. Why the switch to a Cayman?

Well, I am in my third 911 and am ready for a change. I have driven a few Caymans on the track and really enjoy how they handle. They remind me of my beloved 951 that I never should have sold. I like the looks and the Cayman just seems to fit me nicely.

Careful of buying a car with pccbs - they are crazy expensive to replace and really you may need to replace them if you track the car regularly. If you don't track it, then there's not much point to having them - less brake dust vs the five-figure price to replace them doesn't make for a favorable cost-benefit trade off...
