Default 07 Cayman Service Required" with only 4,800 miles

I have an 07 Cayman S with 4,800 miles I've had since new. It's at a vacation home so I don't get to run it all that much. It's giving me a "TPMS" error, but now is also giving me a "service required now" message.

Even though it doesn't have many miles, does it need service because of the time? I'd like to maintain the car, but don't want to throw money away.

Yes, you absolutely need to service the car now.
Take a look at your owners manual (there may be a separate maintenance manual) and read what it says about servicing the car based upon milage OR TIME intervals.
Really you are years overdue for an oil change, brake bleed, and a variety of system/component checks.
Oil needs to be changed annually to remove corrosive residues in the used oil.
Many would say that lack of frequent oil changes is a large contributor to internal engine damage especially the IMS bearing.
Get it done and have peace of mind!

Have you had any service at all on the car since new; oil changes, pollen filter change, brake fluid refresh, etc. Porsche has a maintenance program for low use vehicles, it usually involves a once a year check including oil change, brake fluid refreah every 2 years, etc.
I have a low mileage 01 Boxster S and after 10 years and about 12000 miles I just did a major on it. New plugs, etc. Money well spent if you plan to keep the car.

You probably have the original tires which have leaked down, hence TPMS message. You need new tires also due to their age and flat spots from not moving.

I think the battery in the TPMS has a normal life of 5 years.
I too think it would be a very good idea to change the fluids. Consider the antifreeze as well. These cars need to be driven to stay healthy. The water pump comes right to mind as needing movement.
Also the serpentine belt might need to be replaced. Brake fluid for sure.

I had the car serviced a year after purchasing and had the fluids checked a year ago, but it wasn't at a Porsche service center. The tire pressure was fine, but the batteries for the sensor had died.

The "service now" message was new. I'm in an area now that has a Porsche dealership that's an hour away, but it sounds like it's worth it.

If you have an Indy near you I would go there, it will be much cheaper. For sure you will need new oil, filters, and brake flush. The tires are also probably shot too, check the dates on them. Please remember, the car may only have 4800 miles, but it is 8 years old. 8 year old cars need serviced.
