Thumbs up BumperPlugs Delivers

I'm very excited to share the results of Eric's work on my wife's Cayman S. Because we all like pics, here it is alongside its garage-mate during a recent HPDE outing:

We recently replaced her rear center console with an NOS Aqua Blue OEM painted console. Seeing the difference it made in the interior, she asked me what other parts could be painted. As soon as she saw the center stack example on the BumperPlugs website I knew that an early Christmas gift was in order.

Here are a few before pics... standard Volcano Grey with black console that you see on every 9x7.1 car. Kind of meh. Note the chewed-up button finish common to the earlier soft-touch climate rockers.

And after full disassembly (and I do mean FULL, one button at a time, PCM in three pieces teardown), I packaged the faceplates carefully and shipped off to Eric:

After a short wait, Eric packed up the finished product and sent back to me for assembly. While I waited, I stripped the rocker buttons with my wife's help and DIY refinished them with Krylon Fusion Matte Black. They came out well-matched, but I nicked a small bit on reinstall that I'll touch up later.

I should note that Eric went above and beyond to handle an extremely hard-to-paint part at my wife's request. She specifically wanted the shifter button surround done in the same color, and after some careful disassembly that went in the booth as well. It came out flawless, as did every other part I sent. Words aren't adequate to describe so I'll let the pictures do the talking:

The finish is even better than the OEM console, and the shifter surround really ties it all together. It transforms the interior into something bespoke and truly special; the smile on my wife's face was priceless. She's the type to keep a car for a very long time and I know this helps reinforce that desire for her Cayman. After seeing the handiwork I'm seriously considering doing the same for my car (y'know, now that I'm an expert in taking all those buttons out).

No affiliation, just an extremely satisfied customer and wanted to spread the word. THANK YOU BumperPlugs! Happy holidays, all.

Mark

Wow...thanks. Always looks much better 'finished and installed' than laying on our tables!

Nice.

I like the color effect.
I wonder if BP could produce this in a matte finish??

Since the man himself has weighed in it's worth asking, but the gloss effect is actaully very nice (and probably a bit more durable and scratch-repairable).

Eric does top notch work, I've installed a number of their plugs over the years and purchased multiple cars with their center consoles installed. It's a nice enhancement to the otherwise plain interior.

If you'd like a permanent solution to the climate control buttons, check out stickynomore. Another excellent company that I have had refinish multiple parts.

Looked into stickynomore. Like the idea of keeping the labels, but instead of Microgramma font they're using something else. I'm a stickler for keeping it original and would rather black out the buttons than use non-matching text (or spending $400-600 to replace a perfectly good climate unit).

If someone comes up with a solution that creates a permanent label and looks OEM I'll be all over it. In the meantime black will suffice.

I think you would be VERY hard pressed to tell the difference when installed. They are a different surface finish and won't chip like the OEM parts. I've always been very happy with them.

Yes, we can produce matte finishes.

We've been doing quite a bit of this for some Mercedes folks lately, as MB rolled out several higher end models with matte finish exteriors.

On the Porsche interior, we do a ton of satin black, to keep things low key. On the PCM, for example, the '09 and newer is already 'satin black' in appearance, so we've done earlier models trying to mimic that look and tone things down a bit.

But yes, any color can be produced in matte or satin, though as noted above, the glossy finish is a real stunner.
