I have a 2006 Porsche Cayman

It has the Techart wide body kit, 20" tech art Formula GTS wheels, TPC stage II turbo, and the suspension lowering springs

The wheels in conjunction with my tires BRAND NEW Michelin Pilot Super Sport (less than 500 miles) 285/25/20

Are having a problem The ride is very stiff which I expected when I bought the car already decked out. But I have cracked both rear wheels in the past month. resulting in air pressure loss, resulting in blowing rear tires.

Is there just not enough meat on these tires since the aspect ratio is 25? Should I get different wheels like 18s and do maybe a 285/35/18? This is getting expensive quick

$400 a tire Have purchased 6 in a month 4 then blew 2 so 6 the "fixing" of the wheel (welding which I am nervous about) is $125 a pop. So Im almost At $2700 in tires and "fixed" wheels which I don't know how long they will be okay for.

 

That would be my guess..You've got rubber bands stretched over a solid object. I haven't seen many people run less than 30 aspect ratio. Personally I recall bending a lot of wheels on my Supra when I ran 30 so I bumped up to 35 and never hand a problem again.

 

Why not go with the original 19in option: 235/35 and 265/35

I think you're right with the sidewall being too thin, I would consider going to a 19" or 18" rim.

 

FWIW, I've had no wheel damage problems in my urban driven daily driver with PASM, H&R sport springs lowered 2006 CS with a stiff ride on stock sized 19" tires.

My tires only have 2.8 inches of sidewall So I just ordered a set of the same wheels in 18s Wont find out really until spring though if this solves the problem but we will see I guess Fingers crossed
