Default Small parts for Spyders?

Just looking at the winter ahead and some projects to get done.

1. The small yellow plastic piece that the trunk lid rod sits down in is old, etc... would like to replace

2. Drivers side, soft foam-plastic cover in front of the roll bar is damaged from the top roof-bar pin not sitting in properly in the roll-bar hole and someone previously clamping it down. It happened to me again last night. Arrrg. Anyone else have this happen? I'll take a pic and post. But needless to say I'd like to replace it.

What's a good source for these more obscure parts. Suncoast not showing them.

Suncoast would be my starting point since my local dealer hasn't "earned" my business. I would give them a call and explain what you need.

The rool hoop cover may be pricey if i'ts available. Worse case scenario you may need to have it redone by an upholstery shop.

Sunrise in Portland is usually cheaper and has great service. Closer to you also.

Some of the little odds and ends replacement pieces aren't online but we have access to everything. Our Porsche specialists will definitely be able to help you out. Give us a call or shoot us an email and we'd be more than happy to assist.

Yes this is exactly what happened to my Spyder.

It was fixed by a "vinyl" specialist at time of service at my local dealer Champion Porsche, FL

Not sure if they have someone there or brought someone in. I'll see if and how much they charged me; should have that invoice.

Can't even tell it was once damaged

Nice. Thanks for posting. In the picture, the damage mark in the middle happened before I purchased the car. I think he must have let it sit for quite a while. The small mark, closest to the actual roll-bar happened to me the other night by setting the aluminum bar into the holes, affixing the drivers side cable, and then clamping it down without knowing that the drivers side pin had inadvertently hopped out. I knew something was out of alignment when snapping on the roll-up window and the pop-rivets didn't line up. I could then feel underneath that the aluminum bar was too high on the drivers side. I stripped it back down and discovered the problem. I hope this helps other Spyder owners. It's a little quirk on the top.

And just for the 'bikini-top naysayers' - would I now not recommend the Spyder? Hell no! The top is one of the most brilliant pieces of engineering in recent times. How we got it on such a small production run for the price we've paid is simply astounding. I don't think PAG made a whole lot of profit on this car.

The top is briliiant and I agree that with all the changes made to the car it would be surprising if Porsche made any significant profit. I believe the Spyder was a marketing ploy to bring buyers in. They suck them in with the looks and great handling and then reality sets in when they see the manual top. Sales guy suggests you can get nearly the same car with an auto top and PASM to give you similar handling and comfort if you want it. It would have been awesome to be a fly on the wall to see buyers considering these cars.

I just purchased my Spyder and it had the exact same issue from the previous owner. I called Sunset, and was quoted a price of approx $850.00 for all three roll bar pads. After I got up off the floor I started looking for some on Ebay. I found a three piece set for $75.00 from a salvaged Boxster. They arrived in like new condition. I did order the 8 plastic grommets that fit into the holes on the roll bar for about 85 cents each. Good luck

Well this is interesting. I thought the pads were Spyder specific. Good to know. Tx.

In February here is what the parts cost from Sunset:

Grommets 986-580-751-00 $0.86 each
Set of vinyl roll bar covers 987-580-311-01-A37 $811.03
Set of leather roll bar covers 987-580-311-03-A11 $1405.07

I forget the issue on the covers but I believe they are either Spyder specific or 987 specific.

My car had the same thing on the passenger side…must be something about taking the top on/off from the driver's side and not seeing what is going on over on the passenger side. The top was on the car (winter in Omaha) and I did not see it until later. Porsche dealer PPI missed it also.

Could you post a picture of the new covers of the car and advise what they came off of (if you know).
