Help convince me.....Cayman S vs. Z51
#17
I think if you are contemplating Vette versus Cayman, you will be disappointed in the lack of power with a Cayman. For me, I was tossing up Cayman or Elise or 996 C2/C4S. Outright power was never a concern, so I wasn't disppointed when the Cayman felt only marginally faster than my 1998 M3.

If you buy the C7, EVERYONE you know will come over to check it out. People will stop you as you get out of your car to ask you about it. I don't hink the average person knows that the Cayman is some different kind of Porsche from the Carrera nor could they identify it by name if you pointed to it. And by the time the Cayman has depreciated to really desireable levels, most people will be over the C7. The C7 is like the hot new girl at your highschool. While the Cayman is the old hot girl with a new nose job. Much less of an event...

Here you go fellas, pay close attention to what Jerome says about the car's feel and presence and when he will sell it, to me his words sum up Porsche.

PS Me thinks drivers who start cars and immediately gun the engine are nitwits or multi millionaires.

I doubt it would be very hard on the car considering there is no load on the engine. Maybe it was warmed up already (doesn't look like it though from the exhaust). As long is oil is flowing its all good.

That's part of the point, no way that car was running long enough to circulate the oil and starting the engine is already hard on the car.Having no load on the engine IMO makes no difference it's still bad for internals and for what? Hence, Porsche's instruction to start the car and gently drive away till it's fully warm. I wouldn't rev my engine like that warm but that's just me, no need for it and it can do nothing but harm in the long term.

Should they cover more engine failures? Yes. Should Porsche engines cost less? IMO, yes. But the statement above is not entirely accurate.
One last thing...... (snip - deleted for now)

A 981 Boxster R will probably be quicker than a Cayman S or probably a Cayman R though. Recall the Overbeek Cayman R vs. 987 Spyder test on the karting track.
Now if you don't mind attention and still want to spend "Porsche tax " level money.

Think I'm pretty much settled on dumping the 06 S as soon as the excitement dies down & ordering a Z51. Porsche lost me with the way they denied the IMS issue. And, must admit after driving the Box a few times it really didn't excite me much, probably why it's only been driven 11/k since new.
