MY06 Cayman S purchase
Have been busy and not around for a good while but wanted to inquire as to any obvious concerns on a future purchase consideration. At a dealership I'm looking at a very nicely maintained and documented MY06 Cayman S manual with close to 50K mi and CPO'd. My thoughts go to serpentine belt and clutch life but I'm sure there there are other concerns. I'm not certain what hoops it has to go through for the CPO. Any input would be appreciated. Is a PPI still recommended considering the fact that it is CPO'd? Thanks!

Will the CPO do you any good at this stage? I thought it just added 2 years to the warranty and if its an 06, you would be past 6 year mark by now. I would def ask for the service history of the car (dealer service records and any other maintenance records they can retrieve).
Have you considered having the car PPI'ed by an independent Porsche shop? Might give you more piece of mind.

Thanks! Yes the CPO will help. For cars outside of factory warranty, the CPO gives Porsche Warranty Coverage for 2 years from date if used retail delivery or up to 100,000 mi., whichever comes first. I would only consider a car with this coverage. That said...I'm thinking that this would be as good as a PPI...? That's one of my questions.

Service book documented and stamped. Original window sticker, papers etc. It seems that there is some attention to detail. I still need to get to check everything out personally.

Serpentine belt replacement should have been done as part of the CPO compliance. It's an inexpensive job (an easy DIY requiring about the skill level of an oil change). The plugs should also have been replaced. Both should be part of your deal if not already done.
Clutch life is largely use dependent. You could have another 50,000 miles of life left, or 50 miles. No way to know for sure.
Best wishes

If you do the serpentine belt, check the water pump. Mine failed at 76,000. Replaced it myself along with the belt, about $200 in parts from Suncoast. Window regulators and door lock switches also seem to be common problems (replaced one of each). Clutch, flywheel, pilot bearing, rear seal and slave cylinder replaced at the dealer at around 73,000 miles. Hopefully I'm good for an other 75,000 miles.
